Deadpool 2 was a hilarious movie, with a lot of twists and turns and some amazing surprises from start to finish. We got to see X-Force make their debut as the third officially named X-Men affiliate team on the big screen. We saw the Juggernaut being exactly what he is and we got a lot of X-Force alumni showing up all through the film and for one big sequence that killed off almost all of X-Force almost as fast as they were introduced and it was awesome. However, like many comic book fans I left the theater with a few questions and I’m going to ask a couple of them here and hopefully get some clarity from the whole situation.

This isn’t to say that the movie was bad, I can’t say enough how awesome it was, I just have a few questions that many of us may share after watching Deadpool 2. Here we go:

Question #1: Is Vanessa Death or Copycat?

For long time comic readers, you know that Deadpool has an on again/off again romance with Lady Death, the actual personification of Death who is also the object of affection for the Mad Titan Thanos. Coincidentally so, Thanos and Cable are both played on film by Josh Brolin. Think about Vanessa in the movies for a minute, any time Deadpool is close to death, Vanessa is near him. He contracted cancer as soon as he proposed to her in the first movie, and almost any time they’re near each other and aren’t having a sex montage, someone is close by trying to kill Deadpool.

In the comics, Vanessa Carlyle is the shapeshifter Copycat, another blue skinned mutant who can change her appearance and take on the powers of any superpowered being she impersonates. For a time, she even masqueraded as Domino and was also a member of X-Force. However, it seems like things may have shifted and Vanessa is actually Death instead of Copycat, however…

Question #2: Is that mid credits scene canon?

The mid credits scene in Deadpool 2 shows Deadpool, Yukio and NTW (that code name is way too long) fixong Cable’s time slide device and before Deadpool puts it back, he says he’s going to “fix the timeline.” He goes back in time and saves Vanessa from being killed. He also saves X-Force MVP Peter, aka Sugar Bear. Hilarious moments in that sequence sees Deadpool taking out that god awful version from Wolverine: Origins and even shooting Ryan Reynolds in the head after accepting the part from Green Lantern. However, was that all canon or just a gag? Because if it’s real then a lot of things have changed. One being that Vanessa is still alive and there’s a possibility that everyone who died from X-Force was saved as well along with Peter.

This could also be another instance of a Deadpool storyline being all over the place and we shouldn’t take too much stock in it. Howver, a man can dream of having Brad Pitt show up once again as the Vanisher because that was awesome.

Question #3: What’s going to happen with Dopinder in the future?

One of the main themes in Deadpool 2 is how murder changes someone. It’s also said a few times that after someone gets their first taste in murder they very rarely stop at just one. Dopinder, the cab driver from both movies, now wants to be a contract killer to the point of obsession. It’s funny within the world that the movie has created, however it wouldn’t be too surprising if Dopinder’s development is shaping him to be something more than what we’ve seen so far. We know that Marvel movies have a tendency to drop clues way beforehand and we all saw Dopinder run down the orphanage headmaster with his car at the climax of the film. This was Dopinder’s first taste, but how will that change him and what do we have to look forward to in the future for this cab driver?

Hope Summers and Cable

Question #4: Are the events of Messiah Complex coming?

Cable reveals that his daughter’s name is Hope. In the comics Hope Summers is Cable’s adopted daughter and is often looked upon as the messiah for mutant kind. Her powers are off the charts and in one timeline, the activation of her powers killed so many people, on accident, that mutants were shoveled into concentration camps and given “M” tattoos over their eyes. Cable rescued the baby at birth and took her into the future, not unlike when he too was a child and taken deep into the future to save him from a techno-organic virus which gives him his cybernetic limbs.

The revelation that Hope was indeed his daughter in the films opens up a lot of potential story lines to be explored in later films. And as we saw in the ending of the film, she’s very much alive and more than likely a mutant.

Question #5: Is Mr Sinister on his way?

This is the second movie from the X-Men cinematic universe to give clues to Mr Sinister and what he’s been up to. We saw in in X-Men: Apocalypse’s end credit scene where an Essex Laboratory was collecting DNA from the Weapon X Facility. In Deadpool 2 the name of the orphanage where Firefist and Domino were tortured as children was called the Essex Home for Mutant Rehabilitation. In the comics, Mr Sinister was a geneticist who experimented on mutants since the 18th century. He is obsessed with Cyclops’s family, and Cable is Cyclops’s son. Deadpool and Sinister have mixed it up on multiple occasions and he is one of the major villains that the X-Men have and I don’t think it’s coincidence that two movies have given a nod to this character without any long term plans. Mr Sinister is one of the most fascinating X-Men villains as his motivations are just to create the perfect mutant and rid the world of those he feels are scientifically unclean. Mr Sinister, in the comics, is also the reason why Cable was born in the first place as he felt that the genetic material of Cyclops and Jean Grey would create, in his mind, the perfect mutant. Jean Grey was dead at the time so he cloned her from DNA he had previously collected and thus was born Madeline Pryor, Cable’s birth mother and Cyclops’s first wife.

With all of these clues popping out and now Cable part of the X-Men film universe, could we see Mr Sinister in the future? I hope so.
