30 years ago today, young Ferris Bueller decided he needed a day off from school. Was he actually sick, eh, does it really matter? All that really matters is that he was a Senior in High School and he needed a day off with his girlfriend and best friend.
I know what you are thinking… Yes, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was released June 11, 1986, which is clearly not June 5th, so what am I taking about?
Well, according to Larry Granillo, a writer for Baseball Prospectus, the baseball game featured in the movie took place on June 5th, 1985. Granillo used the footage from the game shown in the movie to determine that Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane were at an Atlanta Braves – Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field today 30 years ago.
That being said…..
But in this case let’s just look back on some of the best moments from Ferris’ day off, then go watch the whole movie because IT IS AN AMAZING MOVIE AND EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT!!!!!! Just saying (but you know I’m right)
I mean seriously….
When you have a class like this who wouldn’t want to take a sick day. Ben Stein is cool, but damn I would skip this class too.
But who wants to skip alone. Ferris recruits his best friend Cameron Frye, who is ACTUALLY home sick from school,
to not only join his adventure, but to make a phony phone call Edward Rooney and convince him that Sloane Peterson, Ferris’ girlfriend, had a death in the family and needs to go home.
Rooney was both right and wrong about the phone call, but the man still got played. Bravo to Cameron for pulling off the best prank phone call ever. Cameron may have fooled Rooney but he certainly wasn’t prepared for Ferris’ next request.
THE 1961 FERRARI 250 GT CALIFORNIA!
The song made this scene. And damn that car was beautiful. Sorry Cameron no matter what you say is going to keep anyone from driving that car.
Ferris has the girl, he has the car, and his best friend, so what are they going to do?
How about a fancy lunch?
Ferris is never one to back down from a challenge, but how about riding in a taxi next to your father when you are supposed to be home sick?
BUT EVEN THIS NEAR MISS CAN’T STOP THEM!!!!!! So what is next… a museum visit
But in my personal opinion…. This is the best.
Ferris Bueller is the only person who could possibly pull this off and you know what it was AMAZING! And I bet you were dancing (I was and I was singing along also).
There are so many more excellent scenes that I could pick from, but I might as well just put the whole movie here. So I think I will end with just 2 more worth sharing scenes and then you can just grab some movie related snacks and a beverage and watch the entire movie.
And with that….
THANK YOU JOHN HUGHES! Without you we would not have Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!
(Couldn’t help myself)
