From the Geek’s of Temple of Geek to all the Mom’s out there, we would like to wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day!
I thought the best way to celebrate this special day, besides spending some time with my Mama, would be to do a shout out to some of my favorite TV and movie Mom’s from over the past several years.
TV Show Mom’s For the Win!
1. Lauren Graham’s Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls.
She is one of the best TV mom’s I have ever seen. She is the kind of mom that I want to be when I become a mom. She love’s her daughter so much that she would sacrifice anything for her. She is someone you can look up to and count on no matter what. She had her daughter at a very young age, but she never once regretted having her. She raised Rory to be the best person possible and always supported her in everything. She is a role model and one-of-a-kind mom. Lorelai is probably my favorite TV mom ever!
2. Jill Taylor (Patricia Richardson) from Home Improvement.
I don’t know if you everyone remembers her, but she was the wife of Tim “The Toolman” Taylor (Tim Allen) and the mother of 3 rambunctious boys Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran Noah Smith). She was an extraordinary TV mom if you ever watched the series. She had 3 full-time jobs: her actual job away from home, taking care of her boys, and making sure her husband didn’t do anything stupid. And she was phenomenal at it. There was also a point in the series when Jill went back to school, so she had a lot on her plate, but she was able to succeed at everything. Home Improvement was an amazing show, so if you haven’t seen it, you really should.
3. Donna Smoak (Charlotte Ross), Felicity Smoak’s mama from Arrow.
Now I know this one seems a little unconventional, but Mama Smoak is an amazing mom and woman. She worked very hard to give her daughter everything she never had. She was a single mom who raised an extraordinary daughter. It is true that some of her ideas may be a little old-fashioned, like finding her daughter a rich husband, but in the end she only has her daughter’s best interest at heart. Felicity was always a bit embarrassed by her mom probably because they are quite different, but there was a moment that Felicity realized that maybe they weren’t as different as she once thought. I think Donna is an excellent mother.
Now for the Movie Mom’s!
1. Rosemary Pendergast (Patricia Clarkson) from Easy A.
Rosemary is probably my favorite movie mom ever! She is honest, witty, funny, lovable, and the kind of mom I want to be. She loves her family dearly and tries to give the best advice possible. She is just fabulous. Rosemary’s scenes are some of my favorite in Easy A.
Bless this family dynamic!
2. Bren McGruff (Allison Janney), Juno’s Stepmom, from Juno.
I have a profound love for Bren. She is Juno’s stepmom and she is the best stepmom ever. She speaks her mind and gives Juno the 3rd degree all the time. But she cares so much about her. When Juno gets pregnant Bren stays by her side. When Juno chooses to give up her baby for adoption she supports her decision. My favorite moment in the movie is when Juno goes in for her first ultrasound. The technician is super judgey and makes a “thank goodness for that” comment when Juno says she’s going to give up the baby for adoption and oh did Bren have a few words for her. If you haven’t seen this movie you really should. Bren is a terrific mom who stands up for her kid no matter what.
3. Morticia Addams (Anjelica Huston) from Addams Family.
Now Morticia is both a movie mom and a TV mom, but I never watched the TV show so I’m going to stick with the movie version. She is kind of an unconventional mother figure, but she is fabulous nonetheless. She is attentive to her children, fashionable, and an excellent wife. And by attentive to her children I mean she makes sure they are doing things that would make her proud. If you have seen the movies then you clearly understand what I mean. She is definitely a woman I can look up to.
Well folks I hope you enjoyed this list of some of my favorite TV and movie moms. Let us know in the comments below who some of your favorite Mom’s are.
