New Orleans Celebrates Star Wars Day 2017

Sitting under a painted ceiling of a galaxy far, far away, the nerds of New Orleans gather to eat their Wookie Wieners while waiting for the Star Wars Day celebration to begin. Hosted by a favorite local restaurant, Dat Dog on Frenchman Street, the Krewe of Chewbacchus line up outside ready to roll for their NOLAier Than Thou Shoeboxus parade. Smaller than their annual parade during the Mardi Gras season, this shoe box parade consists of geeks and nerds of every walk of life and their mini shoebox sized floats, designed to celebrate the fandoms and city they love. The Krewe of Chewbacchus welcomes all of geek and nerd culture, regardless of who you are or where you’re from. While the parade only walked a few blocks, the Star Wars Day celebrations could be felt all over, as even walking to the start of the parade from blocks away, geeks greeted passing nerds with salutations of “May the Fourth be with you.”
