Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice is only one day away from general release, unless you’re going to a “midnight” screening of course, and despite reviews that have been divisive at best, it hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. from getting the boll rolling on hyping us for, if reviews are to be believed, the one character who has really stood out and stolen everyone’s attention from the two title characters.
I am of course talking about Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman. With her own stand alone movie set to be released on the 23rd of June 2017, few bits and pieces of the movie, set to be directed by Patty Jenkins, have emerged, with the release of a new picture, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, showing our heroine in new battle wear, along with our first glimpses of Connie Nielson as Hippolyta, Diana’s mother, and Robin Wright as General Antiope, as well as Lisa Loven Kongsli as Manalippe, two of Diana’s aunt’s.
In the picture the four characters are seen in battle wear that has been designed for the film by Oscar winning costume designer Lindy Hemming, who previously worked with Christopher Nolan on another famed DC character in the shape of the critically acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about her work on the movie and the costumes in the picture Hemming said; ““To me, they shouldn’t be dressed in armor like men, it should be different. It should be authentic and real – and appealing to women.”
In the same article, Jenkins talked a little about between the four characters; “She (Diana) is the only child they raised together, and their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.”
The movie has been filming mostly in London, with Themyscara itseslf being recreated in Italy and Southern China. The movie will be a prequel to the newly released Dawn of Justice, taking place predominantly in World War I and detail Diana’s journey from her home island to her first trip to Man’s World, accompanying Steve Trevor, played by Chris Pine.
Gadot’s Wonder Woman is set for a busy year. On top of stealing many of the best reviews concerning Zack Snyder’s sure to be controversial launching pad for the DC Extended Universe, and her own stand alone movie next year, Gadot will be returning to the famed Amazonian with a starring role in Justice League, itself due for release in November of next year, and is set to start filming this April, once again under the direction of Zack Snyder.
