2011 was the last time I sat in a movie theater dressed as a wizard waiting not so patiently for Harry Potter to fill the screen. It has been 5 years since the last time I was fully immersed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Yes, I have been to the theme park numerable times and I have loved every moment of it, but seeing your favorite book come to life on the big screen is somewhat different.
You sit in a theater your popcorn and bunch of other fans just like yourself. You carry your wands at the ready and you wear your House colors with pride and you cheer together and cry together. During those 2+ hours you truly feel at home once again. Even though Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was the final Harry Potter Series film made at the time, we never really gave up hope that we would once again see J.K. Rowling’s world brought to life before our eyes.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
As you know, our wishes, prayers, dreams, and hopes have been answered. In November of this year, J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will have us once again dusting off our wands and pulling on our House colors and sitting on the edge of our seats.
2016 San Diego Comic Con
At this years San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros. Pictures has given us a deep look into the American Wizarding World and the life of Newt Scamander with a new movie trailer.
All the feelings I have right now, I will try my best to put them into words.
The final words of this trailer mean more to me than I thought they would. Actually, I shed a few tears and I felt so much pride in this film and I haven’t even seen yet.
“I want to be a wizard.”
It is a simple sentence that means so much to a fan like me. I was 11 years old when the first book was published in the US. I didn’t know at the time that I would come to wish I was a wizard, but I guess I just didn’t realize how much I needed this series to be a part of my life.
Truthfully, I didn’t pick up the series until I was 14, just after the 4th book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was published and after the first film was released. Clearly, I had no idea what I was missing out on until I was sitting in my local theater with my family watching J.K. Rowling’s world take shape before my eyes.
As soon as the movie was over, I begged my little sister to let me borrow the published books and I just dove in. I could not put the books down. I had no idea a book series could posses me like it did. From that moment forward reading became something I loved, instead of something I had to do.
This Series Is More Than It Seems
The Harry Potter series taught me so much. In a series of 7 books, I have learned how to be a good person, how my imagination can take me places I never thought possible, how hate can destroy you, how love can save your life, and how friends can be the family you never knew you could have and how you would risk everything to save them, including your life.
Honestly, Rowling’s words have the ability to open up your eyes to the world around you, if you are willing. The world she created may have been fictional, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find the reality in the fiction. Just look around and you will see it.
I am 29 years old now and I am so thankful for everything this series has given me. I honestly hope J.K. Rowling knows how much she changed my life and the lives of many others with her words.
In the end, I can’t wait to see where this new film takes us. There is so much more to her magical world and I am ready to see it.
