With the cultural juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto VI looming ever closer, September is filled with games trying to avoid its wake. If you’re anticipating the next installment in Rockstar’s legendary series, this coming month has an incredible list of games to choose from. 2026 has been a wonderful year full of retellings of known stories as well as original ideas and September is no different. In fact, with so many games avoiding release in October, September is jam-packed with incredible titles that can’t be missed. Sleep schedules may be harmed in the attempts to enjoy all that’s in store for the beginning of fall.
Crimson Moon
Crimson Moon initially pulled me in with its stunning character design. Emblazoned across the official website are two that look like inspiration was taken from Diablo, one of my favorite series. You take the form of Nephilim, half human and half angel. You are tasked with defending humanity and reclaiming the city of Gildenarch. The game is described as a “gothic, high renaissance action-adventure RPG”, all of which sounds exciting. The story is told through replayable runs where players are faced with a slew of terrifying enemies and encounters with Dead Gods. Crimson Moon can be played alone or two-player co-op. Dive in alone or find a friend and prepare for spooky season by slaying vampires, undead, and more.

Orbitals
You’ll need a player two for this asymmetrical co-op puzzle game. You and a friend will embody Maki and Omura, explorers joined at the hip, who must venture into space to help save their crumbling station home that has become ensnared in a cosmic storm. The art style is best described as classic Japanese anime with full voice acting across eight total languages. Staying true to the core of the game, the original soundtrack was carefully crafted to really put players firmly into the universe. Co-op puzzling can be done locally, via split-screen, or online using Switch 2 GameShare. Survival comes at the cost of effective teamwork with each character having a unique set of tools for the task at hand.

Bandai Namco is bringing players into 14th-century Europe in their new open-world dark fantasy RPG. By day you are Coen, the human. By night, you are a vampire who is working to save your family. The Black Death has decimated humanity and in its wake, vampires have risen to break free from their lives hidden in shadow and to have true freedom. They’re not the only thing that goes bump in the night that seeks to step out. Coen, as a Dawnwalker, must choose: fight for his humanity or embrace his dark vampiric powers to save those he loves. The world exists on a day and night cycle, limiting your time to choose how to play your adventure. And player choices directly impact how days are played out and who gets to live to see the next one.
