Minecraft Dungeons II officially arrives on September 29, 2026! As the highly anticipated sequel to the dungeon-crawling action-adventure game Minecraft Dungeons, this new installment expands significantly on the original lore and gameplay. While regular Minecraft empowers your creativity through building, this action RPG adventure challenges you and your friends to think strategically as you battle across Minecraft-themed areas. Available on Windows, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo, the game has earned a surprising, almost perfect 10/10 rating for being far more fun than its predecessor.
Exploring New Dimensions and Open Worlds in Minecraft Dungeons II
Moving away from the first game’s linear level system, the sequel features an open world filled with side quests, new missions, and all-new areas to explore. Mysterious rifts are opening across the Overworld, leading to The Sift, a brand-new dimension where players can gear up and team up to face unfamiliar threats and uncharted lands.
Meanwhile, the Illager High Council has unleashed their attack, with Japan as their first target, requiring heroes worldwide to stand together to defeat their soul-corrupted creeper. Players can also discover new ways to customize their loadout and playstyle, wielding gear like a battlestaff with extra weights on the ends and enhancing their combat with enchantments like Lightning Surge for a conductive mage build or Soul Blast. Plus, players who use the same Microsoft account for both Minecraft Dungeons I and II will unlock the exclusive Hero Cape in Dungeons II and Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition.

Player Impressions and Gameplay Feedback
First impressions of the game are amazing, delivering an art style, lighting, and vibe that I find incredible, along with lively world details like critters playing around in the background. It offers fun gameplay, a really good story, cool small-scale story building, and funny jokes, and it is just as fun playing alone as it is playing with friends. There is a lot more to do compared to the first game, featuring great hidden treasure locations and unique enemies that force players to think strategically rather than just brute-forcing bosses.

Despite these praises, I had a few criticisms and found some quirks. There is a lack of hero appearance customization without mods, and I was disappointed that you cannot upload a custom skin like in regular Minecraft. On PC, there are no settings to move with WASD, the auto-attack can get annoying when trying to retreat at low HP, going off a ledge with auto-walk can cause glitches, and the menu sometimes gets in the way mid-fight, leading to unnecessary deaths. Additionally, some tiny rendering issues occur in cutscenes, and I jokingly docked points for the absence of Villager News.
The Verdict
Overall, despite minor control quirks and a desire for more skin customization, Minecraft Dungeons II delivers an astonishingly fun, unique, and expansive experience that far surpasses the original game. At the $29.99 price point, it’s well worth buying to play with your friends. Purchase the game here!
