How to Cosplay Allison (The Rumor- #3) from The Umbrella Academy

So you have just finished binge-watching season 1 of “The Umbrella Academy” and the obvious next step is getting your cosplay together. You came to the right place. Emmy Raver-Lampman plays Allison Hargreeves / Number Three / The Rumor, a celebrity with the ability to manipulate people into doing what she wants them to do by saying the phrase “I heard a rumor…”. This article will feature as much information as we have possible about cosplaying Allison (Number 3) from this Netflix original series.  Although the series has been adapted to television based on the comic book series of the same name, created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics, this will focus on cosplaying Allison from the television series and not the comic.

Thanks to the detailed hard work from the good folks over on WornOnTV.Net we have a great headstart. Worn On TV is a great resource for finding screen accurate clothing from some of your favorite television shows.

Deciding On An Outfit

The first step will be deciding which version of Allison you want to cosplay. Will you cosplay young Allison or adult Allison? How you decide is up to you. And then you need to decide how you will put the outfit together. Will you go Screen Accurate, Closet Cosplay, Alt, or handmade.

Screen Accurate – If you have the budget and want to get the screen accurate items (screen accurate means you are wearing the same items/brands that are worn on by the actors on the show), click the link for all of the know outfits from WornOnTV.net:  https://wornontv.net/the-umbrella-academy/.

Closet Cosplay – Choosing your cosplay based on the clothing you already own that resemble the items worn on the show. also known as alts.

Alts – Clothing purchased because it resembles items worn on the show.

Handmade – Making or commissioning items to look as close to screen accurate as possible.

If you want to go for recognizable, I suggest going with the promotional photo outfit. It is what she wears in the finale episode of season 1 as well as on all the promotional materials and advertising for the show. or if you have young Allison in mind, The Umbrella Academy school uniforms and masks are the most recognizable.

Young Allison Cosplay

Most of this will have to be custom made until the show grows in popularity and mass-produced cosplays are available. The pattern on the sweater vests is called Argyle in case you want to try and track down an alt. The thing that will make the cosplay recognizable is having the crest on the blazer and the red piping on the blazer.
