Last month, Temple of Geek Chic reviewed several items from SixOn Clothing’s line of video game-themed swimwear. We gave the suits glowing marks for high quality, style, and cosplayer-approved attention to detail. (You can read the review here.)
Now that sweater weather is finally here, it’s the perfect time to check out some of SixOn’s other offerings, inspired by the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts video games.
Founded by seamstress and designer Nancy Lam, SixOn Clothing is a California-based, gamer culture-driven brand. Its mission is “to bring nerdy everyday fashion to fans.”
Lam draws inspiration for her designs from anime characters and video games, including Devil May Cry, Legend of Zelda, and Overwatch. SixOn’s website offers tops, dresses, outerwear, shirts, accessories, and other merchandise.
Temple of Geek Chic enlisted real-life geeks Maddie, Aaron, and DocintheBox to get cozy in SixOn Clothing apparel. Aaron’s photos were shot before the Covid-19 pandemic. The other shoots took place safely with social distancing.
SixOn Final Heaven Remake Skirt
This flirty utility skirt is a replica of the one rocked by Tifa in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Cosplayers will appreciate that it’s extremely screen accurate. Lam analyzed trailers and more than 50 screenshots to make sure she got all the details right. She made minor changes to the design to adapt it for regular wear. A lot of care went into recreating this look and it shows.
If you’re in the market for a Tifa costume, this skirt should be your go-to. However, you could also wear it as part of a goth, steampunk, or pirate-y ensemble. As length goes, it’s definitely a mini. Be prepared to show off those legs or pair it with tights or leggings.
What we love about it: When it comes to this skirt, it’s all about the details. Some of our favorite elements include the sassy pleats, shorter asymmetrical front, embroidered silver skull and crossbones, and zipper detail. The straps with buckles and clasps, which hang down at the sides and back, are the perfect nod to Tifa’s look. The gusseted side pockets don’t just look cool. They’re also extremely practical.
Made from sturdy cotton fabric, with just the right amount of stretch, this skirt is clearly made to last. Model Maddie confirmed the design is “quite comfortable” and “very well made.” She modeled a size small, which she said felt true to size.
“It also made me feel sexy,” she added.
SixOn Advent Soldier Knit Sweater
If you’re looking for a way to rep your Final Fantasy fandom during sweater weather, this beautifully textured design was made to order. Inspired by Cloud Strife, the stretchy, armor-like pullover comes in a deep, subtle purple, inspired by the Shinra Soldier uniform. For an easy cosplay, all you need is a spikey, blonde wig — broadsword optional.
What we love about it: Though this stylish piece is cosplay ready, it’s casual enough to wear to the office or out and about. The warm, comfortable knit will see you through the winter. Again, we can’t help geeking out over the wonderful textures and details, including the zip-up collar, buckle accent, and suede shoulder “armor.”
Described as a men’s sweater, this top could be worn by anyone. Size down accordingly. Doc in the Box wore a Medium.
Organization XIII Hoodie Jacket
We guarantee this is the most dramatic hoodie you will ever own. Inspired by the Organization cloak trench coats from Kingdom Hearts, this design was originally funded via Kickstarter. It wears more like a coat than a hoodie. It’s thick, durable, and warm with stitching that gives it a tailored feel.
Once again, this could make for an awesome casual cosplay or simply a distinctive fashion item that represents your fandom. The long, flared sleeves and oversized hood with collar give us major wizard vibes — very mysterious.
What we love about it: This is such a unique piece. The lining is super soft and the front pockets are nice and deep to keep your hands warm. A removable silver, beaded chain hooks across the chest. The zipper pull and drawstrings also have metal accents that are very cool looking. Many fun styles could be created with this hoodie, along with Kingdom Hearts cosplays. Or, you could wear it casually all winter long.
Aaron modeled a Large. He said the hoodie fit well and is true to size.
Overall:
We can’t help but get excited over how one-of-a-kind, well made, and versatile SixOn Clothing’s apparel is. The clothes we reviewed are built to last and can be worn over and over. They transition easily from serious, con-worthy cosplay, to casual closet cosplay, to everyday wear.
While these pieces look amazing, they’re also practical. The fabrics are sturdy, comfortable, and machine washable. Best of all, these are fun designs that have been lovingly researched and executed. They really do justice to the video game characters and fandoms they represent.
