On April 12th of this year, streaming platform Paramount+ surprised fans announcing a renewal for Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This news comes at a very peculiar time with Star Trek: Discovery currently showing on the streaming service and playing into its 5th and final season. The announcement was made via the Star Trek and Star Trek on Paramount Plus official social media channels.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Co-Showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso along with showrunner Alex Kurtzman thanked the fans for its continuing support and renewal for the series stating in a social media post:
“On behalf of the cast and crew of Strange New Worlds we are thrilled and grateful to continue our voyages together. We can’t wait for you to join us and the crew of the Enterprise on another season of exploration and adventure.”
The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds added some new, fresh, and exciting adventures and stories among the characters to the Trek Universe. Although there were many great episodes during this second season, the dramatic and classic court room drama episode. “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” the hugely hyped crossover episode with Lower Decks “Those Old Scientists,” and the surprise musical episode “Subspace Rhapsody” may have left fans wanting more. A lot of fans are pondering what Season 3 (currently in production) and the newly announced Season 4 might bring to the table.
In a statement by Jeff Grossman, Executive Vice President of Programming on Paramount+, he reiterated:
“It has been incredibly rewarding to continue to build the STAR TREK universe, and we’re so grateful to Secret Hideout and our immensely talented casts and producers. STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS has found the perfect blend of action, adventure and humor, and we’re elated to announce another season ahead of our season three premiere. Similarly, STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS has brought the laughs with an ample amount of heart to the franchise across its four seasons. We can’t wait for audiences to see what is in store for the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos in this final season.”
Despite the end of Lower Decks and the rebirth of another series continuing to expand and “boldly go,” so to speak, with Strange New Worlds, there is no doubt that both of these series have contributed to an ever expanding Star Trek universe. There are many more stories to tell and with fans remaining hopeful, they continue to see the beloved characters in other future iterations of Trek.
