Ava Louise Murchison & Mason Blomberg star in the second season of the Emmy Award-winning original series ‘Jane’.
Saving the World is Twice the Fun: Ava Louise Murchison & Mason Blomberg on “Jane” Season 2
In an interview with Temple of Geek, Ava Louise Murchison and Mason Blomberg agree filming Jane season two was a breeze compared to the first. The comfort of familiar CGI and a seasoned crew made a big difference. Mason even found similarities between himself and his character, David – both funny with a healthy dose of fear. Luckily, their on-screen adventures didn’t involve real animals, keeping their bravery in check.
Learning about animals was a highlight for both. Ava discovered the emotional side of animals, even in coral (yes, it’s an animal!). Mason became a panda and shark trivia whiz. The travel aspect of filming was a huge perk. Ava loved her Kenya safari, while Mason soared through Costa Rica on a zipline. Now, they both share a dream of filming in LA.
Q &A with Ava Louise Murchison & Mason
Monica (Temple of Geek): So my first question is for Ava. Now that you’ve been on set for a while, was filming the second season any easier compared to the first?
Ava: Well, I think I definitely got used to filming Jane, especially with the CGI stuff. I got used to imagining all the CGI because I had to imagine it. And I definitely grew close with all the crew as we filmed. And I just grew close with everybody. I got, like a little family, and it was definitely, I was more used to it. But also filming season one, I just had a blast. It was so much fun. Everybody was so nice to me and everything like that.
Monica: And Mason this question is for you. Are you at all like your character on screen?
Mason: Yeah, I’m funny in real life, and David is definitely funny in the show. And he, he’s also a scaredy cat. I wouldn’t say I have too much of a scaredy cat, but there’s definitely things that I could get scared of, like a wolf, if for real life.
Monica: Is there anything when you guys are filming that actually scares you guys?
Ava: Well, since most of it was CGI, I don’t think so. We don’t really film with actual animals, but it would have been really scary to see the wolf up close.
Mason: Yeah, there were some stunts that we had to do. Like, I had to climb a tree and we got to learn how to use a rope and a pulley and, climb up a tree and stuff. That was super cool too. But, I was pretty high up. And, if I dropped, I would hurt myself, and I was kind of scared of that, but, and then. Yeah, like I said, there weren’t really real animals.
Monica: This show is designed to both educate and entertain people. What’s the coolest thing that you’ve learned while you’ve been working on the show?
Ava: That just animals have minds and feelings and personalities just like us. Which, tells us more about why we should be able to protect them and care for them. But also just like cool animal facts, like how wolves, howl to to communicate with each other. And also one of the episodes. Coral. I didn’t know that coral was an animal, which was really cool to find out.
Monica: Mason, was there anything that you thought that was really interesting?
Mason: Yeah. Just I, I didn’t know so much before I was on the show. In season two, it also taught me a lot more, like, I didn’t know that coral was an animal either. I didn’t know the pandas had a sixth finger. And, in season one, I didn’t know that sharks, use their multiple colors to blend in.
Monica: Mason, for you, what has been your favorite scene to film so far?
Mason: Well, there’s a lot of scenes that I love to film because we got to travel all around the world for. I got to film in Toronto because I live in America. Alberta, Costa Rica, Kenya, Africa, they were all just so cool. And, each scene was just so fun and even, even when we were filming in our house.
Monica: Ava, a similar question for you. Where has been your favorite place to film, and also where would you like to film?
Ava: Well, you know, definitely the places that we got to travel where my favorite, I loved being in, Kenya because we went on a safari and we saw so many wild animals, like, we even saw, a lion family, like kangaroo eating a zebra, and we saw the insides of a zebra. But I think that was just, like, really cool to me. And I also loved Costa Rica because, like, I got to zipline and that was really fun. And I would love to film in LA.
