Meredith Moriarty, the creator of the Eisner-nominated WEBTOON the Third Shift Society, recently spoke with Temple of Geek about her creative process and what’s next for the hit series. The comic follows Ellie, a young woman who discovers she has psychic powers. She is recruited by a paranormal detective named Ichabod Crane to work at the Night Market, a mysterious place where monsters and other supernatural creatures gather.
The first two seasons of the Third Shift Society boast over twelve million views on WEBTOON’s platform. Moriarty shared with us that season three of the beloved series will release on Halloween – October 31st, 2024 on WEBTOON!

During our interview, Moriarty delved into how she creates characters readers connect with, the challenge of breathing new life into familiar folklore figures, and her inspirations for the Third Shift Society. Her influences for the series range from John Bellairs’s book The House With a Clock in Its Walls to horror video games like the Silent Hill series and Bloodborne.
The Third Shift Society to be Adapted for Television
Moriarty’s comic is also headed for the silver screen. Announced last month in Deadline, Wattpad Webtoon Studios, John W. Hyde and Terissa Kelton’s Rehab Entertainment, and The Jim Henson Company are developing a live-action series based on the Third Shift Society.
Moriarty shared her excitement for the TV series, as well as her approach to collaborating with filmmakers to bring her story into a different medium. “Even though the source material is is mine, there are other creative people working on this, and whatever comes out from it is going to be kind of its own thing, and it should be enjoyed as such.”
What’s Next for Meredith and the Third Shift Society
Volume 1 of the Third Shift Society is already available in print through WEBTOON Unscrolled, and Volume 2 will release on October 29th, 2024. The timing coincides perfectly with Moriarty’s upcoming digital release of the series third season.
Moriarity will also be at New York Comic Con. She’ll participate in the following Creator signings:
