Judy Ann Nock brings “Witches After Dark” Panel to NYCC.

Author and musician Judy Ann Nock, known for her popular “Modern Witchcraft” book series, is set to break new ground with a panel discussion at New York Comic Con (NYCC) titled “Witches After Dark: A Conversation in New Witch City.” This event, taking place on Friday, October 18th at 6:30 PM, comes hot on the heels of Nock’s 16th book signing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, further solidifying her presence in both the literary and witchcraft communities.

Specifically, “Witches After Dark” will delve into the realities of modern witchcraft, exploring how real witches navigate media portrayals, stereotypes, and public perception. Furthermore, the panel will discuss the challenges and triumphs of being an “out” witch in contemporary society. Nock, who identifies as “witch enough,” has curated a panel of experts to shed light on these topics and showcase the diverse faces of modern witchcraft.

Nock’s journey to mainstream recognition began with a 2019 New York Times article that debated the staying power of witchcraft’s rising popularity. However, five years later, Nock has proven that witchcraft is more than a trend. Her continued success, marked by frequent appearances at The Met and now a prominent NYCC panel, demonstrates her dedication to bringing witchcraft further into the public eye.

Nock’s innovative approach to merging witchcraft with mainstream culture has garnered praise from social media commentators. In particular, her consistent presence at The Met, a venue typically associated with high art and historical artifacts, has been particularly noteworthy. “I may be the first witch to have a book signing at the Met,” Nock remarked, highlighting the potential historical significance of her appearances.

With this in mind, with her upcoming NYCC panel, Nock aims to further normalize witchcraft and foster greater understanding and acceptance. “In a word, acceptance,” she states, explaining her motivation for bridging the gap between the magical and mundane. Ultimately, her latest book, “The Modern Witchcraft Book of Crystal Magick,” is available now and serves as a testament to her commitment to making witchcraft accessible to all.
