On November 2nd and 3rd, anime fans flocked to the Pasadena Convention Center for Anime Pasadena. In addition to hosting a number of guests—including the Hazbin Hotel cast—the convention was full of cosplay, autographs, and plenty of fun panels. To nobody’s surprise, there was “Jujutsu Kaisen” cast panel on Day 2. Maddie Morrow acted as moderator, talking to Adam MacArthur (Yuji Itadori), Kaiji Tang (Satoru Gojo), Robbie Daymond (Megumi Fushiguro), Anne Yatco (Nobara Kugisaki), Lex Lang (Suguru Geto/Kenjaku), and Nicholas Roye (Toji Fushiguro).
“Jujutsu Kaisen” Cast Panel
“Jujutsu Kaisen” features a number of colorful and incredible characters, so, of course, we had to know how they related to who they voiced. MacArthur revealed that what he really likes about Yuji is his complexity, and how he develops throughout the series. Although, he wishes he can go back to the “golden retriever energy” he had previously. “Bring us back to season one. Please,” he said.
Tang realized how he and Gojo are alike, thanks to his wife, Marcy Edward—who just happens to be a voice actor, too. Yatco says that she and Nobara love to shop. Both interact with their friends in a similar way.
Considered the villain of the series, Lang admitted that he and Geto/Kenjaku aren’t that alike, aside from the ideology of developing a better world. Of course, Lang would not fill his ideal world with only Jujutsu sorcerers, as his character constantly tries to do throughout the series.
Though Toji is only in a handful of episodes, Roye’s character has been well-received. Just like Toji, he doesn’t have cursed energy, but that’s pretty much where the similarities stop. In fact, Roye revealed that he hasn’t really been cast as a villain in anything. It was a nice change in his career.
Daymond showed up a little late for the panel—he overslept—but says that, like, Megumi, he is fiercely loyal. Though, he is much goofier than his grumpy character.
“Jujutsu Kaisen” Season 2
Before fans got to see the absolutely gutwrenching Shibuya Incident, they were treated to a flashback of Gojo, Geto, and Shoko during their school days. This is where Toji is first introduced, and his presence gave us a very emotional prologue. This includes the “KFC breakup” between Gojo and Geto, and the death of Riko Amani, the Star Plasma Vessel for Master Tengen. As viewers know, Riko embraced her destin. However, after spending time with Gojo, Geto, and Shoko, she tearfully admitted she wanted to stay with everyone. Geto, having decided to give that wish, reaches for her, but she is suddenly shot by Toji, who was hired to kill her. This action emotionally affected Geto and helped set the series into motion.
These scenes were extremely tough to watch and record, particularly for Lang and Roye. Lang said one of the most powerful shots is Geto in the shower, letting the water fall off his back as he spirals into darkness. Roye revealed that he and Reba Buhr (Riko) were brought on at the same time. Also, it was tough to know that his character commits such a heinous deed. This effectively ends Buhr’s time on “Jujutsu Kaisen.” However, this action gives fans another reason to love the series and look forward to what happens next.
“Jujutsu Kaisen’s” first two seasons, as well as its movie, are streaming on Crunchyroll and Hulu. A third season will drop next year.
