The second season of the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series Acapulco returns October 21st. We spoke with Camila Perez and Chord Overstreet about what it was like preparing for their roles.
Interview with Camila Perez and Chord Overstreet
Acapulco is the story of twenty-something Máximo Gallardo (Enrique Arrizon), whose dream comes true when he scores the job of a lifetime as a cabana boy at the hottest resort in Acapulco, Las Colinas. The second season kicks off right where the last season ended with Julia (Camila Perez) and Chad (Chord Overstreet) trying to decide what their future together will be. One of my favorite things about the first season of Alcapulco was that it didn’t use overused tropes when it came to its love triangles. They steered away from villainizing any specific character. Instead, they showed how complex even the smallest side characters are. And were able to show that doing what is right, or even what is right for yourself, isn’t always easy to see. https://youtu.be/xDRP26sCCFc
When asked what they enjoyed about the way their characters were portrayed this season they stated:
I would just say my characters, it’s just like it’s really fun because there’s every script they get, there’s a different level, you know, a new level. And it’s, it’s, it’s just a lot to play with. I mean, it just they get to go there and goof around and I’m excited to see what the what’s next. Chord Overstreet
For me, I think season one was kind of, you know, the presentation of Julia, but season two is like you get to see so many layers and you get to see her in so many like funny situations, very dramatic situations, just rollercoasters. She gets tested a lot throughout the season. So I think that was really, really fun to play and I’m grateful for the writers that they trusted me to, you know, kind of lay all those layers. Acapulco Season 2
Set in 1985, Máximo must contend with upheaval at the resort, and unexpected problems at home. There is also a new love interest who just might rival the girl of his dreams, Julia. Under Don Pablo’s guidance, Máximo sets his eyes on one day running the entire Las Colinas operation. Meanwhile, in the present-day, Older Máximo (Eugenio Derbez) returns to Acapulco to make peace with the recent passing of Don Pablo, where he is forced to confront some unfinished business young Máximo left behind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaKlp9c27VE
