The teaser trailer for Ahsoka hit the internet today, giving viewers a first look at the upcoming Disney+ series. Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano was joined by two familiar faces from the Star Wars universe: Mandalorian Sabine Wren and Twi’lek pilot Hera Syndulla.
Hera Syndulla Casting
The teaser trailer gave us our first glimpse of Hera Syndulla played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. While it was widely speculated that the Star Wars: Rebels character would debut in Ahsoka, Disney did not confirm or deny the rumors. Hera was voiced by Vanessa Marshall in the Rebels series.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead was officially announced as Hera Syndulla after the Ahsoka trailer dropped at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Winstead is perhaps best known for her role as Romana Flowers in the 2010 cult-classic film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Her other roles include Jessica Bennett in Passions (1999-2000), Mary Todd Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012), Nikki Swango in Fargo (2017 series), Mary Phinney in Mercy Street (2016-2017), and Helena Bertinelli/The Huntress in Birds of Prey (2019).
Ahsoka Series
Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka has appeared in episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. However, the solo series set to debut in August, will be Ahsoka’s first leading role in the live action Star Wars universe.
The teaser trailer revealed new details that suggest a continuation of plot points from the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels.
The series finale of Rebels left off on a cliffhanger: young Jedi Ezra Bridger disappears into an unknown region of space, taking Grand Admiral Thrawn with him. An unspecified amount of time later, we find Sabine Wren standing in front of a mural of the Ghost crew. Ahsoka approaches and the two set out for parts unknown to find Ezra.
In Season 2 of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka is hunting for information about Grand Admiral Thrawn’s whereabouts. The teaser trailer also gives us our first glimpses of Ezra and Thrawn, while setting Thrawn up to be the “heir to the Empire.”
