Another year has come and ANIME Impulse was amazing as ever

Another year has come and gone, and ANIME Impulse was amazing as ever! Entering its fifth year, the anime and cosplay extravaganza was part of an Asian American Expo at the Pomona Fairplex on the weekend of January 18-19. This year, the convention grew to include multiple halls with artists, vendors, gaming, panels, and cosplayers galore.
As part of the Asian American Expo, one could purchase a single ticket and be able to attend all three events happening at the Fairplex.

Between the crowds who showed up for Expo, Blush Con, and ANIME Impulse, thousands came out to experience the culture, heritage, food, and cosmetics available. With over 1000 vendors over seven different event halls, one could easily taste a variety of cuisines while perusing art and collectibles of all different types. There was also a large assortment of playable video games on hand as well as a Super Smash Bros tournament in which competitors could challenge each other for bragging rights and tons of prizes.

Voice actors were a big hit over the weekend with stars of the hits Fire Emblem Three Houses, Blond Boyz B*tchin, and Miraculous Lady Bug giving audiences part of the experience of their shows. Attendees had opportunities for meet and greets, photos, and signatures with some of their favorite anime cosplay stars. Speaking of cosplay, there were multiple showcases over the weekend with group meetups for fans of My Hero Academia, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, the Persona Series, and parades each day through the Expo so attendees could show off their talents.

Not enough can be said about the cuisine available at this event. With food trucks galore, there was plenty to choose from in way of Asian delicacies. Inside the vendor, halls were many vendors and dealers with the traditional fare for customers to sample and take home. With so many choices, it is nearly impossible to try everything, so bring an appetite!

The closing of the weekend came on Sunday night with the cosplay competition hosted by Elizabeth Rage (@elizabethrage on IG). There were many competitors vying for prizes in Judges Choice, Fan Favorite, and Best in Show. From foam armor builds from Gundam Wing and Fire Emblem to fabric constructs from Demon Slayer and Miraculous Lady Bug, the cosplayers came out looking their best and performing on the Main Stage in front of an energetic crowd.

I want to thank ANIME Impulse for the phenomenal weekend and Temple of Geek for the support in coverage. This is one of my favorite events of the year and I thoroughly enjoy covering it and am looking forward to next year!
