Interview Amanda Overton about working on Arcane: League of Legends
Amanda Overton, co-producer and co-writer of “Arcane: League of Legends,” delves into the characters and narratives that define the show.
“It was such a labor of love to make the show and to be able to put the stories that we wanted to see out into the world. And then other people liked it. It’s been fantastic. -Amanda Overton
Relatable Characters
Overton, co-creator of “Arcane,” shared how they worked to make the characters relatable despite the show’s fantastical setting. She particularly connected with Caitlyn, a character she helped flesh out by giving her a family and backstory. Overton admired Caitlyn’s drive to forge her own path and make a name for herself, a motivation she personally identifies with.
“We were always trying to tell a story that felt like it was coming from the characters. That the characters were making decisions people would make. Even though it’s a crazy world. There’s magic, and it’s this huge, there’s monsters and there’s things that normal people don’t actually deal with. We always wanted their motives to feel like those of people. Is it because of love? Is it because of fear? Because of hope? Is it because of family? Why do people do these things? Do they have to be the same reasons we do the things we do? And so that’s kind of where we always started. And then we dress it up and all the fun. I think every day we were just like, what do we love? Why do we love it? Can we do our version of that in the show? You know, and I think we all really did and we’re happy with it.” -Amanda Overton
