Arrow Is Ending After Season 8 – This Week In Geek

In a surprise announcement on Wednesday, The CW revealed that season eight of Arrow will be the shows last season. The season will run for 10 episodes and conclude. WHAT?!?!

The show that spawned an entire interconnected universe is going to conclude later this fall. But why is it being canceled? While it’s not CW’s highest rated show, it still pulls in over a million viewers each week according to Nielsen ratings.

It appears that Arrow’s lead star, Stephen Amell is the reason for the show’s conclusion. Amell stated in a Facebook video that he felt it was time for him to move on at the end of his commitment to the show. Here is his post.

With Season 8 only being 10 episodes long, we are predicting that Oliver will sacrifice himself in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover that was teased in Season 7. If you remember, Oliver mad a deal with the Monitor to save Kara and Barry’s lives. The crossover event is typically around the midseason finale and this episode count puts it near that timeframe.

Arrow started in 2012 and is currently in the 7th season. This show has been the launching point for shows like The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. While this may be the end of Stephen Amell’s run, Oliver Queen will not be done.

Fans of The DCEU film Suicide Squad will be seeing new faces in the sequel. Website Collider is reporting that several new characters will be joining the Squad thanks to writer-director James Gunn.

First up, the only returning character announced so far is Deadshot, but he will not be portrayed by Will Smith. So who is picking up the reins from Smith? It will be none other than Idris Elba.

You might remember him from the Thor franchise as the character Heimdal. He was last seen in Infinity War murdered by Thanos. Is this an indication that he will not be returning to the Marvel franchise?

So, who are the new characters? First up, we have King Shark. We have seen a previous incarnation of the character on CW’s The Flash. So, we expect that this version will be done in a similar fashion. Ratcatcher is part of Batman’s rogue gallery and will be gender-swapped for the film being played by a woman.

The Polka-Dot Man is another villain that hangs out in Gotham City and fights the Bat. The Peacemaker is a character that loves peach so much, he kills for it. It is rumored that Dave Bautista is being eyed by Gunn for the role.

I am sure there will be more announcements to any other returning characters or other new faces as production gets moving on the film. The Suicide Squad slated for an August 6, 2021 date there is plenty of time for more news to trickle out.
