Artist Madison Snell celebrates diversity and the fandom that she loves!

Madison Snell's designs resonate with the shared feelings of many Doctor Who fans that "It's About Time" for more inclusion, understanding, acceptance, and kindness.

As a full-time student, Madison Snell’s RedBubble shop (craftsbymadison) is an easy way to combine her passions for pop culture and her skills in graphic design. She has recently created some really fun Doctor Who inspired graphics that celebrate both diversity and the fandom that she loves. Her art is inspired by this year’s groundbreaking debut of Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor in Doctor Who’s almost 60-year run! Her designs resonate with the shared feelings of many fans that “It’s About Time” for more inclusion, understanding, acceptance, and kindness.

When we spoke to Madison we asked her what inspired her and she said “Right now, my shop consists of 10 collections, each representing a different pride flag. I was inspired by the 13th Doctor’s striped shirt to create a series of illustrations where the stripes on her shirt represent the colors of those various pride flags. The Doctor is my favorite character in the series – no matter what form they take, I can see parts of myself in The Doctor. I’d like to think that no matter who you are, who you love, or how you love, everyone can see a part of themselves in The Doctor. The beauty of Doctor Who is that The Doctor can be anything you want them to be. So, I created my illustrations to reflect this idea.”

Madison also told us about the positive reaction her designs have received “The initial reception I had to my shop was overwhelmingly positive. People immediately understood what I was trying to do with my illustrations. I’ve even added two more pride collections since I opened my shop, based on feedback from people who have reached out to me. I hope that this positivity continues and that eventually I can find the time to add different kinds of illustrations, outside of the pride collections (I just need a time machine!).”
