San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) took over the San Diego Convention Center and Gaslamp District from July 25-28th. This convention ignites with panels and presentations across multiple genres of fandom. Attendees hear directly from the actors, creators, and industry titans themselves as they spill secrets about upcoming projects and reveal behind-the-scenes magic. Among these panels was “5th Annual Hollywood Game Changers: A Conversation with the Women Behind Popular Film and TV Projects.” This panel hosted a powerhouse of women leading the charge of popular entertainment projects and companies. Kalina Silverman, creator of the card game “Big Talk,” is one of those women. She spoke with us about how important “Big Talk” is in getting conversations started.
Big Talk with Kalina Silverman
“Big Talk” is an incredible way for people across many differing lifestyles to create connections. This is more than just a card game; it’s a way to build community. Kalina Silverman talks about how she started such an impactful movement.
“Big Talk started from a place of loneliness,” Silverman says. She met new people constantly, yet she still found herself feeling lonely.
I tried a little experiment where I just walked up to strangers and saw what kind of connections I could make. And, it didn’t matter if it was little kids or the elderly population or people experiencing homelessness or business people. It turns out, everyone just wants to connect.
SDCC is a place where fans of pop culture can find a multitude of other people who enjoy the same things. However, such a large space can make it intimidating to make lasting connections. Silverman mentions that “Big Talk” caters to people who are a bit nerdier or a bit different. “It’s about celebrating our unique identities and stories.”
