Conan the Barbarian was the creation of author Robert E. Howard and was written by several writers from 1950-2004, those books were later turned into movies and even rumored to be turned into a Netflix series. But now everyone’s favorite Barbarian is going to be coming to you via Titan Comis as a new comic book series in 2023.
Conan the Barbarian arrives at Titan Comics
Titan Comics is teaming up with Heroic Signatures to develop and publish a new ongoing series as well as several mini-series based on the works of Robert E. Howard, as a part of Titan’s 10th-anniversary celebrations.
Last year Titan and Heroic Signatures announced that they would be continuing Conan’s legacy through new novels, short stories, and art books in order to celebrate the character turning 90. Two of those creations will release later this year; Conan: Blood of the Serpent, a new novel released on October 18th, and a behind-the-scenes book about the film version of Conan releases on November 1st.
Conan the Barbarian has a long history
Other publishers have had the rights to the character in the past, Conan the Barbarian being the subject of 7 Dark Horse comic book titles, and having his own series that ran for 275 issues published by Marvel, the latter being a part of the republishings coming to us from Titan and Heroic Signatures.
Conan has had a number of computer and video game adaptations as well as seeping into pop culture as a whole. If you have yet to interact with any Conan-related media then you might have missed out on some references; This quote from Assassin’s Creed gives a nod to Conan, “To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women.” An episode of Teen Titans was titled “Cyborg the Barbarian” and the kid series Dave the Barbarian was a tribute to Conan himself.
The president of Heroic Signatures, Fredrik Malmberg had this to say about their partnership with Titan, “We have been working with Titan for a year on the prose side and established a good foundation for expanding our business together. When it became clear that Heroic Signatures would publish our own comics it was natural to partner with a team that we have known for decades. Their expertise in publishing is stellar and we couldn’t be more excited to launch a barbarian horde of titles like Conan, Solomon Kane, Dark Agnes, and many more together.”
Titan is also excited about their team-up for this project, “Following on from the Conan fiction and illustrated books Titan Books is publishing this year with Heroic Signatures, we are very excited to be extending our relationship with our longstanding colleagues, Fred and Jay and their incredible team, to include Comics, Graphic Novels and Archive Editions through Titan Comics, for all the Robert E Howard properties which we will be launching in 2023.” said Titan Comics and Titan Books co-Publishers Vivian Cheung and Nick Landau.
