Cosplay Connection is all about learning more about cosplayers and their journeys through cosplay. This time, Cosplay Connection host Maddie Morrow caught up with cosplayer Jazmin Duarte at WonderCon 2022.
WonderCon 2022
WonderCon returned to Anaheim, California the weekend of April 1-3, 2022. Since 2012, WonderCon Anaheim has been held in Southern California at the Anaheim Convention Center. WonderCon is the sister show to Comic-Con, embracing all of the main aspects of SDCC, including comics, movies, TV, animation, cosplay, and more. There were so many cosplayers at the convention this year!
Cosplay Connection Interview with Jazmin Duarte
Getting to know Jazmin
Jazmin began her cosplay journey in 2020. Her first cosplay was Merlin from the BBC televisions show, Merlin. She is known for her Marvel cosplays, such as Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, and Spider-Man as well as her incredible Ahoska Tano cosplay from the Star Wars franchise.
Cosplaying at conventions vs. at-home
Jazmin has had the opportunity to attend two in-person conventions. One being Los Angeles Comic Con in December of 2021 and WonderCon being the second. Maddie asked Jazmin to compare cosplaying at home for TikTok videos versus cosplaying at a convention.
“It’s very different…it’s so much more fun because everybody’s here. Like, a majority of people are in cosplay, or if they’re not, they still like, enjoy seeing you in cosplay. It’s more fun, more interactive. You get to take pictures with people! It’s just a lot more fun than being home alone, in your room, just making videos!”
Cosplay connection’s guests and host encourage anyone who is interested in cosplaying to give it a go! Jazmin says, “Just go for it! Whether it’s a closet cosplay a full-on cosplay, or you made it yourself or you bough it, it does not matter. Just have fun with it!”
