About Hazbin Hotel

Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie Morningstar, Lucifer’s optimistic and cheerful daughter, in her quest to redeem the damned from the wrath of heaven’s angels. Once a year, the angels descend to hell to exterminate as many souls as they can in order to keep hell’s population under control. The Princess of Hell becomes frustrated with watching her people die (again) and devises a way to save as many of them as she can.

Charlie’s plan is to open a hotel for demons and sinners alike, giving them a place to change their ways. By learning from their mistakes and choosing a better path, Charlie’s dream is that these souls will be able to enter heaven so there will be no need for an extermination anymore.

Constructing a Charlie Cosplay

Makeup

One of Charlie’s most defining features is her white face and bright red cheeks. If you wish to copy the look of the animation, face paint and dramatic makeup is key.

Mehron is a staple name in the world of body paint. Luckily, Charlie’s basic shade of white does not require any mixing and matching of different shades. A classic white face paint is best, and can be found in either stick form or a singular pallet in Mehron’s Paradise line.

Mehron’s CreamBlend Stick also comes in a shade of bright red that can be used for Charlie’s circular cheeks. If you do not want to apply paint over paint, red eyeshadow can also be used to achieve the same effect. Either way, whichever option you choose will require sponges for blending.

If you plan on cosplaying at a convention, photoshoot, or anything that requires wearing the body paint for a prolonged period of time, then you will need setting powder to seal everything in place.

With a solid white base for the face, contouring is key. Face paint tends to erase all structure to the face, but that can easily be fixed with an eyeshadow pallet of blacks and grays. The light gray colors can be applied to the cheekbones, nose, chin, and forehead to redefine facial features. The colors in this pallet also can be used for Charlie’s eye makeup. (On a personal note, I own this exact pallet and it comes in handy for so many different makeup needs).

Charlie has black lips, eyebrows, eyelashes, and eyeliner/shadow (and even a black nose!). NYX Professional Makeup has a black eyebrow tint pen, liquid eyeliner and black lipstick that can all be used to replicate Charlie’s look. You can also use the liquid eyeliner or eyebrow pen to draw on Charlie’s nose.

With all of that face makeup, be sure to stock up on cleansing wipes that are gentle on your skin.

Clothing

Before we dive into the separate pieces of Charlie’s outfit, there are multiple companies that offer premade cosplays as well.

There are also many options if you want to collect pieces separately. First, a simple white button down dress shirt is needed for Charlie’s first layer of clothing. Next, you will want to find a two piece red suit, such as this one available on Amazon. Lastly, a black bow tie brings the finishing touches to Charlie’s outfit.

However, another one of Charlie’s looks is a bit more simple and achievable with pieces you may already have in your closet. In the pilot episode of Hazbin Hotel (available on YouTube), Charlie wears black pants, a white button down bouse, and a black bow tie.

Using the same button down and bow tie above, the last piece needed is black suspenders.

Hair

Charlie has long blonde hair tied into a three-sectioned ponytail and wispy bangs. This is the wig I purchased for my Charlie cosplay. With precut bangs, all that is required is a bit of styling to create the ponytail look. Amazon has other options for blonde wigs as well, all at affordable prices.

Sometimes, it is difficult to get wig bangs to hold after styling. Got2b Glued Blast spray helps to keep every hair in place so your hard work lasts all day.
