Crunchyroll and Newtype revive the legendary anime magazine for NYCC 2024.

Crunchyroll and Newtype join forces to bring a piece of anime history back to fans at New York Comic Con. Newtype, the iconic Japanese anime magazine, is making a triumphant return to the United States with a special edition issue for New York Comic Con (NYCC) 2024. This revival is made possible through a unique collaboration with Crunchyroll News bringing together two titans of anime journalism to deliver a fun experience for fans.

Last published in English back in 2008, this collaborative issue marks a significant moment for anime enthusiasts. Available for free at NYCC while supplies last, the special edition boasts 16 pages packed with exclusive content, including:

  • Exclusive custom art: Featuring stunning new artwork for two of 2024’s biggest anime hits. OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom graces the front cover and The Apothecary Diaries on the back. These pieces come directly from the source. Madhouse, Inc. provides the OVERLORD art, and OLM and Toho Animation Studio collaborate on The Apothecary Diaries artwork.
  • In-depth features: Deep dives into some of the year’s most popular anime, with exclusive art and interviews found nowhere else.
  • Exclusive interviews: Gain insights from industry leaders like Naoyuki Ito, director of OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom, and Norihiro Naganuma, director of The Apothecary Diaries.

This collaboration between Newtype, a leading anime publication in Japan, and Crunchyroll News, one of the biggest anime publications worldwide, is a testament to the growing global appeal of anime.

New York Comic Con (NYCC) is a massive annual fan convention held in New York City. Essentially, it’s a celebration of all things pop culture. From comics and graphic novels to anime, manga, video games, movies, and television, NYCC has something for everyone.
