On the red carpet, we ask Daiki Yamashita about how he was feeling being in Los Angeles to celebrate this next installment in the My Hero Academia franchise. Through his translator, Yamashita says, “I’m truly excited! I’m really forward to feeling all the energy from everyone in the crowd.” He goes on to show off some punches, indicating how excited he is for audiences to see how strong Deku has become. Yamashita explains that this movie shows what Deku has learned throughout his years at UA High School.

Joining Yamashita was Kenta Miyake, the voice of All Might/Dark Might. We also asked how he was feeling being on the red carpet. Through his translator, Miyake says:

First of all, I’m so thankful for the fans who have showed up for today’s premiere. And coming from Japan and being in the US, I’ve been really just surprised and very happy with all of the passion that the fans bring. Yeah, it’s been really amazing.

The story of My Hero Academia: You’re Next follows Deku and his friends in Hero Class 1-A as they work to take down a villain trying to imitate All Might, the one who used to be Japan’s Number 1 Hero. Miyake voices this villain, known as “Dark Might.” When discussing audience reactions, Miyake went into detail about how hard he worked to bring this dark version to life.

I worked really hard to get the Dark Might. Yeah, I worked really hard, but he’s not that likeable. So, I want to tell fans that, as you’re watching, you better root for Midoriya and everyone so they don’t lose to Dark Might!

About My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is an anime and manga series created by Kohei Horikoshi. In this world, most people have “quirks,” or special powers. However, Izuku Midoriya (also known as Deku), the main character of the series, is born without a quirk. Japan’s Number 1 Hero, All Might, bestows his own quick upon Midoriya, which allows him to join a class of heroes-in-training at UA High School. The students of UA High School are training to be the next generation of heroes.

The manga recently finished as of this year, after ten years of publication in Shonen Jump. There are seven seasons of the anime and three films, with My Hero Academia: You’re Next being the fourth. Watch each season, streaming on Crunchyroll.
