The 11th Annual Her Universe Fashion Show, presented by Universal, wrapped up its biggest event yet at San Diego Comic Con. The show captivated a massive audience with an evening dedicated to the worlds of “Wicked”and also other Universal Pictures fandoms. The theme, “Defying Fashion: Fashion That Defies Expectations,” perfectly encapsulated the night’s innovative spirit and boundless creativity.
The Seaport Ballroom Sparkled with Unforgettable Entrances and Musical Delights

Attendees found themselves immersed in the world of Oz even before entering the Seaport Ballroom. A Wicked-themed lobby boasted lots of pink and green, as well as interactive pop-ups. Guests also enjoyed a KISS nail booth, costumes from the film, and a sneak peek at merchandise from “Wicked: For Good.”
The show itself began with a truly magical moment as Ashley Eckstein made her entrance. Inspired by Glinda, she floated down the runway on a remote-controlled platform. This enchanting arrival also featured stunning with motion graphics and projection media from ALTRD Projections, transforming the stage into the fantastical World of Oz.





Co-hosts Ashley Eckstein and Michael James Scott delivered a next-level fashion experience, donning six remarkable Wicked-inspired outfits. These incredible pieces were designed by Andrew McLaine with assistance from Hannah Kent. Their looks, complemented by the exquisite hair and makeup artistry of Veronica Nunez and Leibi Carias, also celebrated the beloved land of Oz.
In a first for the Her Universe Fashion Show, Eckstein and Scott delighted the audience with a duet medley of songs from “Wicked.” The musical spectacle culminated in Scott’s thrilling rendition of Elphaba’s iconic anthem, “Defying Gravity,” which brought the house down. Scott even returned to the stage during the voting process to energize the crowd with his “90s Mixtape” medley.
Creative Talent and Community Spirit Celebrated on the Runway

Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein expressed her awe at the show’s growth, noting how a small spark eleven years ago has ignited into a “supernova” of “geek couture.” She celebrated the community’s vibrant energy, inclusivity, and also sheer joy that has fueled this creative explosion.
Actress Marissa Bode, set to reprise her role as Nessarose in “Wicked: For Good,” joined the expert judging panel. She was also accompanied by Variety’s Senior Culture & Events Editor Marc Malkin amd Hot Topic’s SVP of Merchandising Robin Motts. Also among the judges were the 2024 show winners, Wes Jenkins and Candice Miller. Bode praised the event, stating, “The very welcoming and creative voices on this runway made this a Wicked-ly memorable evening.”

For her grand finale, Eckstein showcased a truly fresh and unique gown, so intricate that it was assembled on-site. Designed by Andrew McLaine and expertly executed by floral designer Rochelle Leigh Wall of “delightful! Flower co,” the dress took inspiration from “Wicked’s” iconic tulip fields. This one-of-a-kind artwork featured an astounding 2,400 fresh tulips, also complete with a matching floral headpiece and shoes.

The Winners Took Their Place in the Spotlight
This year’s top honors went to two exceptional designers. Lynleigh Sato of Redondo Beach, CA (@lynleighsato on Instagram) was crowned the Judges’ Winner with her design “Poppy’s Hues of Happiness,” inspired by the film “Trolls.” Caitlin Beards of Randolph, NJ (@ladyavadesigns on Instagram) took home the Audience Winner title with her “The Mummy” inspired design, “Couture of the Dead.” Both talented designers won a $2000 prize as well as the opportunity to design a fashion collection with Her Universe.





The excitement continued as every audience member received an exclusive LUG Coupe XL Crossbody bag. Fans also walked away with additional swag, including “Wicked” KISS nail and lash extensions.
