Watching the discussion
Dan and Swampy have been working together for many years. They started working together on The Simpsons, then they worked together on Rocko’s Modern Life. During their time together, Dan and Swampy wanted to create a show that was entirely their own. The very first drawing and idea of the character Phineas came to them in 1993. Their pitch was shot down so many times. In fact, Disney said, “No,” at first. A year later, Disney came to them and decided they wanted to pick up the show Phineas and Ferb in 2007. Now, 13 years later, multiple generations of fans enjoy this iconic animated series.
Highlights from the cast and creators of Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe
Ashley Tisdale says that Candace is the craziest character she has every played. There is a lot of screaming involved, and Candace does talk quite fast. She can really only record for about two hours at a time since that does require a lot of energy.
Vincent Martella expends a lot of energy recording Phineas as well. Phineas is such a happy, optimistic character all of the time, and Martella says that he cannot do the voice of Phineas without a smile!
A wonderful side-benefit from Phineas and Ferb the series and movies is that it touches on non-traditional family dynamics. Phineas and Ferb are step-siblings and are part of a blended family. Doofenshmirtz is a single dad, which is not something we see in animated shows.
There are some celebrity cameos in the movie. Ali Wong plays “Super Super Big Doctor,” the ruler of an alien planet. Thomas Middleditch will also play an alien. Diedrich Bader and Wayne Brady also make “appearances.”
Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe will be available to stream on Disney+ on Friday, August 28th.
