Displate Metal Posters Were a Huge Hit at Anime Expo

Displate, the makers of fan-favorite metal posters, attended Anime Expo for the first time! The brand is known for its quality, 3D texture metal posters that represent a variety of fandoms. We spoke with Zuzanna Szczepecka, the Brand & Communications Director, about the inspiration behind Displate and what fans can look forward to.

Anime Expo (AX) is North America’s largest annual convention celebrating Japanese pop culture, particularly anime and manga. The non-profit Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) organizes the event, which draws over 100,000 fans to the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.

Displate Has a Few Core Features at the Center of the Brand

Zuzanna Szczepecka, the company’s Brand and Communications Director, explains that Displate has a few core features at the center of the company. One of those is having a deep understanding of pop culture. Szczepecka goes on to explain the second core value:

We are all about collectability. So, we are creating items that are not only meant to look together good, but also are of quality. You can keep them for longer, and…the value is going to increase over time.

Also, Displate has an appreciation for the finer craftsmanship of their posters. The attention to detail on each piece proves their obsession with quality. “We created a product that’s rich in colors and details,” Szczepecka adds, “that artwork was amazing. So we take those three things [that] are very much at the heart if what we do and who we are.”

The Logistical Challenges of the Anime Expo Booth Were Worth It

This year was Displate’s first year attending Anime Expo. In addition, this is the first time they have done this big of a booth. Szczepecka let us know that Displate has done Comic-Con a few times, but the booth is much smaller.

We had a chance to do this big booth, so we have to figure out how to present our product and brand for the first time in such a big space. How to engage people, how to make the conversation flow, and how to present different products without overwhelming people.

Displate is a Poland-based company. Their trip to Los Angeles specifically for Anime Expo, making logistics on the more difficult side. Szczepecka explains, “It’s a lot of effort, but, at the end, we just love meeting people in person and having this close conversation and close connection with them.”

The Artwork and Source Material Enhance Each Other with Fine Details and Quality Products

Displate works closely with different IPs to reflect what they are. Whatever fans are looking for, they will find a piece that is right for them. Displate has almost two million artworks on their website, with 800 of those being anime. Szczepecka says, “What links all of them is the quality of the print; the fact that design, the product is sleek and metal, and you can put it on the wall. And it is going to look together as a collection.”

The metal used for the posters gives them a vessel to produce high-quality prints. Each poster has “textra,” which draws fans in with its 3D appeal. This textra enhances the details.

We are actually using the technical aspect of the product to the benefit of the artwork and artistry of it. So, we are combining the two. They aren’t in competition. They are, rather, working together to deliver an amazing product.

While Szczepecka couldn’t provide too many details on what’s to come, she does say to be on the lookout for more anime products within the next year! Check out what Displate has to offer on their official website displate.com.
