Gallifrey One 2022

Gallifrey One is one of the most popular conventions in the Doctor Who fandom since 1990, and it usually takes place every February over Presidents’ Day Weekend at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport Hotel. In the last 10 years, in part thanks to social media, there has been a rise in the number of people who cosplay. Cosplay has been around for a long time, but it was something you typically only saw at comic book conventions or anime conventions. Now, thanks to the ability to connect with one another via social media platforms, cosplay is something that is happening in people’s homes, at conventions, and in countless other spaces. 

TikTok is definitely one of those spaces. During the initial pandemic lockdown, many people turned to TikTok and cosplay as a way to keep active. It served as a way to keep a sense of community in a time when we were at home and waiting for a vaccine and social distancing mandates to relax. And now as conventions are finally returning as in-person events, it’s the perfect opportunity to make TikToks with friends that you haven’t been able to see in person for a long time.

Whovians of TikTok Meet-Up at Gallifrey One

This year, cosplayers Perfect Ten Cosplay and Jay the Rose hosted a Whovians of TikTok Meet-Up. The meet-up was open to anyone from the Doctor Who TikTok community. However, it was pretty awesome to see that so many of those that attended the meet-up were dressed in cosplays.
