Exclusive Interview with Los Angeles Comic Con CEO Chris DeMoulin

Los Angeles Comic Con, formerly known as Stan Lee’s Comikaze, was in full swing this past weekend. I was given the opportunity to interview the CEO of Los Angeles Comic Con Chris DeMoulin. He has been running the convention since 2012.

This is a convention that has been created by fans, for fans. Each year at the end of the convention, attendees receive an email survey. This survey asks what they liked, didn’t like, what could be changed and what they would like to see at future conventions. This includes genres, artists, cosplayers, and major guests. Because of Los Angeles Comic Con’s survey they sent out last year, the cast of The Office was brought in this year. Also, thanks to those surveys, the voice actors from Spongebob Squarepants attended the convention. The horror genre section was added this year as well due to the voices of the attendees. I think this is such wonderful news. This proves that as a convention-goer, you do have a say in what happens within the convention!

The filter we use for everything is the fans…We actually at this point are probably the largest independent comic convention in the United States…everything we do is by fans, for fans. –Chris DeMoulin

There were crowds of over 100,000 people attending the convention this year! This has been their biggest year yet. According to DeMoulin, they will be expanding into the rest of the convention center for 2020 due to the increasingly large numbers of attendees!

Check out the interview here. It was a pleasure getting to sit down with Chris DeMoulin, CEO of Comikaze, and I cannot wait to see what he has up his sleeve for LA Comic Con 2020.
