“Finding You” Interview with star of the film Rose Reid

Monica sits down with the star of the film Finding You, Rose Reid to talk about her character Finley and what she hopes audiences take away with them when they watch the film.

Finding You is an inspirational romantic film about finding the strength to be true to yourself. It is the story of an aspiring violinist Finley Sinclair (Rose Reid) who travels to an Irish coastal village to begin her semester studying abroad. At the B&B run by her host family, she encounters a movie star who is keeping it low-key, Beckett Rush (Jedidiah Goodacre), while in town to film his next film. A romance sparks between the unlikely pair but the forces surrounding Beckett’s stardom threaten to keep them apart.

Interview with Rose Reid

During the interview, Rose Reid told us about what she found relatable about her character. “I think it’s so relatable that she’s not just going through one thing. She’s not the static character where she doesn’t have any kind of life, you know. She’s got a mom who doesn’t really care all that much about her or as much about her journey as she might, she doesn’t believe in her, and then she’s got a relationship with her brother who passed away and she’s dealing with that grief. And she’s dealing with the disappointment of missing out on this opportunity that she thought she had with this audition and failing her audition, feeling inadequate, and so I think a lot of people are going to… There’s so many things that I think young women and young men can relate to. People of all ages can relate to. And to see how Finley kind of worked her way through these troubles and how she deals with anxiety and how she deals with the obstacles that end up in her path. ”

Reid also told us about what she admire the most about her character in the film. “I love that she’s so open. I like that she is willing to talk about it, you know, it takes a minute but she’s willing to talk about it. And once she does, there’s this weight that’s lifted off her shoulders, you know. There’s a scene where she is talking to Jedediah’s character, Beckett, about you know what happened to her brother and you just really see this like in the scene this way to get lifted off of her shoulder as she explains what happened. And I think that’s so powerful and I wish I could take that into my life.”

Lastly, Reid tells us what she hopes that when the audience watches the film that they take away the importance of stepping into who you truly are. “…and the desire and confidence to do so. You know that’s what that was all about finding you finding yourself and that’s what Finley goes through, that’s what this journey is about. So I hope audiences have the strength and courage and recognized Finley’s journey and are able to acknowledge who they truly are and step into that.

Written and directed by Brian Baugh, the film also stars Jedidiah Goodacre, Katherine McNamara, Patrick Bergin, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, and Judith Hoag, with Tom Everett Scott and Academy Award® winner Vanessa Redgrave. Saoirse-Monica Jackson is adorable in the film as part of Finley’s host family in Ireland. She brings a light-hearted fangirl vibe that feels authentic and fun.

The film was shot exclusively in Ireland, in and around Dublin, Claire, Offaly, and Kildare. The landscape and scenery are lovely and make you want to run off to Ireland and find your own adventure. But the nicest thing about the film is that there is no big villain, no high stakes. Just tough decisions we can all relate to. It’s light-hearted, sweet, and funny. A feel-good movie you can watch cuddled up on the couch while enjoying a glass of wine. A much-needed romantic escape.

Finding You opens in theaters on May 14th.
