First Look at the Secret Lair x Marvel Superdrop Captain America & Iron Man Cards

The Marvel Universe has made its way into a Secret Lair Superdrop. First revealed during New York Comic 2024: the Marvel Superdrop. Con-goers had the first look at the five Marvel Universe heroes illustrated upon Magic: The Gathering cards. The lineup of heroes is strong, and Magic and Marvel fans will be thrilled to know this is just the beginning.

On November 4th, 2024, the Magic Secret Lair website released the Marvel Superdrop. Superdrops are usually limited, and though this release was a little chaotic, the release of some of our favorite Avengers and Mutants is promising for the future.

Commanders in this release included Wolverine, Storm, Black Panther, Iron Man, and Captain America. Each collection included six cards and could be purchased in either foil or non-foil versions.

Here is our unboxing and quick review of the two champions we secured.

Unboxing the “Secret Lair x Marvel Superdrop” Iron Man & Captain America Cards

“I Know Everything. I Can’t Help It.” – Tony Stark, Iron Man

Tony Stark, a billionaire, genius, and philanthropist, is also recognized as Iron Man and is a key member of the Avengers. His character card is a mythic, human hero with an epic illustration of the infamous genius industrialist in action within his suit. This set comes with an instant, three different artifacts, legendary land, and a bonus card!

Cards feature the iconic Iron Man suit in different stages, the arc reactor, the Stark Expo, and a cameo by Groot! This set of seven holds two mythic (M or MR), four rare (R), and one common (C). Art is by Bud Cook, Justyna Dura, Lie Setiawan, Anna Steinbauer, and Marco Teixeira.

Iron Man’s set remains faithful to his ever-evolving character, who always strives to upgrade his tech. Iron Man, Titan of Innovation, is a five-drop card, making him a pretty expensive commander. However, the promise of a powerful end game is in your favor. Just remember to build your new deck with plenty of Treasure tokens.

Contents

Captain America, First Avenger

“I Know Who I Am. I Rescue The Helpless. I Raise Up The Hopeless. I Don’t Measure People’s Lives… I Save Them.” – Steve Rogers, Captain America

Now, moving on to the second commander, Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers. This super-soldier embodies justice, liberty, and honor and proudly represents the red, white, and blue in his mana cost! The illustration of the commander depicts Captain America emerging from a burst of flames, hurling his iconic shield. Similarly to Iron Man, he is categorized as a mythic, rare human soldier. This set comes with an instant, artifact – equipment, two enchantments, and a bonus card!

Cards feature the First Avenger suited up, the iconic vibranium-metal shield, and familiar allies! This set of six holds three mythic (M or MR) and three rare (R). Art by Anthony Devine, Howard Lyon, Ryan Pancoast, Livia Prima, and Chris Rahn.

Captain America, The First Avenger is a 4/4 for three red, white, and blue mana, making him one mighty commander. He has two abilities designed after the shield itself. Particularly, they include throwing and catching, and dealing damage between one, two, or three targets. Building a deck around Capt. will involve equipment-based cards to protect your commander.

Contents

  • 1x Captain America, First Avenger
  • 1x Sigarda’s Aid as “Captain America’s Aid”
  • 1x Flawless Maneuver

Stan Lee created Iron Man and Captain America, who have become popular characters in both Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

More Heroes to Come…

In addition, many great and insightful videos are out there to help build decks around these Marvel Superdrop commanders. Magic: The Gathering has confirmed that there will be a Marvel Spider-Man release in 2025, stating on their website that there will be “cards from across the Spider-Verse.”
