Gail Simone on Taking the Helm of the Uncanny X-Men

Starting in July, Gail will be writing for the Uncanny X-Men. In a high-profile move, Simone will choose the X-Men team and introduce new characters. Simone expressed her excitement about taking over the reins of the X-Men series. She told the audience that she had been a huge fan since she was young, especially of Chris Claremont’s work.

Simone then delved into what makes the X-Men such enduring characters: “Each one of them is completely different from anyone else in the world and they feel a little bit alien, misunderstood, judged all the time, all of us things that that we feel as non-new humans. And I think it’s very relatable to us as a society all over the world. And that just that part right there is what appeals to me because I can do so much.”

Gail, as expected, was a crowd-pleaser. She is funny, she is brilliant and she is so humble despite all of the incredible work
