Ghost of Yotei Announced at Sony State of Play

Today, Sony held another State of Play stream, showcasing over 20 games coming to PS5 and PSVR2 to finish out the year and onto 2025. Capping off the show was the highly-rumored sequel to Sucker Punch’s 2020 masterpiece, Ghost of Tsushima. Titled Ghost of Yotei, this sequel takes place hundreds of years after the original and has a 2025 release window. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Ghost of Yotei maintains the same moody, cinematic tone as Tsushima. It also appears as though the black and white Kurosawa Mode filter makes its return. You also play as a new, female protagonist named Atsu, likely defending her home similar to how Jin Sakai did.

Yotei also takes place in 17th century, roughly 400 years after the Mongol invasion in the first game. It’ll be interesting to see how the two samurai tales connect.

Other than the 2025 release window, we have virtually no details. It can be inferred that Ghost of Yotei will run best on the PS5 Pro, announced just days ago. The reception to Sony’s mid-generation console upgrade might have been less sour had this game been announced alongside it, but here we are.

With the Game Awards set to return to Los Angeles December 11th, you can almost assuredly bet that more details on Ghost of Yotei will be shared then. Fingers crossed that Legends Mode makes its return.

What do you think of this announcement? Did you play the original? Personally, this is now one of my most anticipated games of all time. Follow us on our socials and join our Discord channel to talk all things gaming, and check out some of Temple of Geek’s video game reviews!
