The series follows Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), a couple who inherit a beautiful old country estate. Excited to turn it into a bed and breakfast, their dreams take an unexpected turn when they discover the house is already inhabited by a hilarious group of ghosts from different eras. Among these ghosts are Sasappis, played by Román Zaragoza, and Flower, played by Sheila Carrasco.
Román Zaragoza and Sheila Carrasco at New York Comic Con
In their interview at New York Comic Con, they teased details about the upcoming season. Including their characters’ on-screen relationships and their experience working with the show’s writers.
The importance of accurate representation and having a collaborative team
They also shared what it’s like to work with a cast that includes both living and dead characters. Román Zaragoza plays Sasappis, a Native American from the 16th century. He discussed the importance of having a Native American consultant on set. He collaborated with the show’s creatives to ensure his character’s portrayal as a Lenape Native American was both accurate and respectful.
“We did a lot of work and we found an amazing consultant by the name of Joe Baker, who is the co-executive director of the Lenape Center,” Zaragoza said. “He’s become a dear friend. And so I’m grateful that we brought him on and he’s been on with the show for the last four seasons.”
“I’m really proud to share the screen with somebody that so respectfully portrays someone from the tribe and from a time before colonization, which I think we don’t often get to see.” -Sheila Carrasco
Sheila Carrasco plays Flower, a hippie fond of hallucinogens discussed the collaborative environment on set. “We can always pitch things,” Carrasco said. “They [the writers] are really collaborative in that. And they always want to hear ideas, which is really, really awesome.”
Season 4 of the smash-hit Paramount+ series Ghosts materialized on Digital on October 18th, courtesy of Lionsgate.
