A Story of Identity and Resilience
Experience the first look at Gulabi’s journey, a story of the quiet strength found in being true to oneself. Gunyo Cholo (referring to the traditional dress marking a girl’s coming-of-age in Nepali culture) follows Gulabi (played by Najir Husen), the only male descendant of a conventional, patriarchal retired Army General.

Gulabi fights a heartbreaking yet heroic battle to claim her identity as a trans woman. Cast out by her father, she flees her small village for the vibrant, unforgiving streets of Kathmandu. Her journey mirrors modern society, exposing the raw friction of struggle and the extraordinary power of human compassion.
Award-Winning Sounds of Unity
Adding to the film’s emotional depth is an official original soundtrack by award-winning composer Marcello De Francisci. It features the haunting, ethereal vocals of Golden Globe winner Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator). The soundtrack is set for digital release on January 13, 2026, just in time for the Cambodian premiere.

Even before its wide international rollout, Gunyo Cholo: The Dress has garnered significant prestige and critical momentum. The film earned the distinction of being an official selection at the Tasveer Film Festival. It was also recognized as a finalist for Nepal’s Academy Awards submission. Praised for its cultural authenticity and raw emotional honesty, the production continues to receive acclaim for its powerful storytelling. Especially its ability to connect with audiences on a deeply human level.
“This film was created with the belief that stories can heal,” says the film’s producer. “Gunyo Cholo is meant to be felt. It is meant to move people, open hearts, and remind us that our shared humanity is stronger than anything that divides us.”
