Her Universe Fashion Show Celebrates 10 Years at San Diego Comic-Con

The iconic Her Universe Fashion Show is returning to San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) to celebrate its 10 years of geek couture. And this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Get ready for an unforgettable night of fashion and fandom! In fact, this is our favorite event at San Diego Comic-Con. There isn’t anything like it at any other convention. Specifically, the themes each year are inspirational, the designs on stage are incredible, and they showcase the amazing talent within the fandom. These aren’t designers who are known around the world; these are incredibly talented fans who are being brave and putting themselves out there.

Ashley Eckstein’s impact on the fandom community is immeasurable. Furthermore, this show is a gift to us fans – a way to be a part of something special. It feels like a way to give back to the community in a truly unique way, something you don’t see at any other event at San Diego Comic-Con, or anywhere else. For instance, it’s a chance for the audience to participate in the fun, whether by walking the catwalk during intermission, voting for the audience winner, or being on stage showing off a design. The Her Universe Fashion Show is incredible, and a do-not-miss event.

I have no doubt audiences will be blown away. For example, last year Ashley Eckstein opened the show with a one-of-a-kind couture design that fused technology and fashion in an unprecedented way. Partnering with Walt Disney Imagineer Daniel Joseph, an incredibly talented inventor and illusionist, Eckstein’s design featured flexible OLED screens that wrapped around her like a film strip, playing video content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

Last year’s Special co-host Michael James Scott wore two couture looks. Both were made by Andrew MacLaine (Genie and Darth Vader) and one by Kristi Siedow-Thompson (Thanos, one of Marvel’s most powerful villains). And he serenaded the audience with performances including special renditions of “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from Disney’s Cinderella. He also thrilled the audience by singing “Friend Like Me” from Disney’s hit Broadway musical Aladdin.

The dynamic duo of Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka in Star Wars and founder of Her Universe, and returning co-host Michael James Scott, the Broadway star of Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, and Something Rotten, will take the stage on Thursday, July 25th at 6 p.m. PT in the Harbor Ballroom of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel San Diego. Award-winning director Jeremy Merrifield joins the celebration to bring his creative vision to the show.

Merrifield is an award-winning director, writer, and producer celebrated for his work across Broadway, advertising, and film. Jeremy’s career began in New York’s Broadway theater community and the advertising industry. Through his company Jupiter Highway, Jeremy provided content to New York’s media and entertainment industry and offered creative services to Fortune 500 companies. His production company, Dream Three Films, is poised to launch several narrative projects. These include a feature based on the acclaimed Balloon, a series starring his husband Michael James Scott, and a feature inspired by Jeremy’s childhood in the commercial fishing community.

Mattel Presents a Decade of Geek Couture

This year, Mattel, the global powerhouse behind beloved brands like Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Fisher-Price, proudly presents the Her Universe Fashion Show. Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe, will ignite the runway with her show-stopping couture look, before joining co-host Michael James Scott to guide the audience through a dazzling showcase of geek couture fashion. Get ready for a night of jaw-dropping performances, unforgettable surprises, and pure creative magic!

25 Designers Compete for the Ultimate Prize

Presented by Her Universe and Mattel, the fashion show will showcase the creativity of 25 talented designers. These designers have poured their hearts into creating unique, custom geek couture looks. The ultimate prize is the opportunity to design a special fashion collection with Her Universe. Which is such an incredible way to elevate the community and turn passion and talent into a career. The Her Universe has launched several carriers in its 10-year history.

The audience will choose one winner, an incredible way to be part of the show.  Then an expert panel of judges will select another. A cool thing is that the panels includes the 2023 Her Universe Fashion Show-winning designers Rachel Petterson and Raeven K.
