The June 2022 PlayStation State of Play event took place today. The showcase included a wide selection of upcoming projects for the PlayStation platform.
June is typically a huge month for gaming news, originally because of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, AKA E3, a long-running event where the game industry shows off its wares. The struggling show was canceled this year and many smaller web events have shown up in its place in recent years. Despite not having E3 attached to the event since 2018, PlayStation has still had regular June reveal events.

The huge hit and first-party PlayStation game Spider-Man Remastered is being ported to PC and will be released on August 12, 2022.
Final Fantasy XVI showed off story and combat. The story seems to have a bit of a Game Of Thrones influence. according to FF16’s producer Naoki Yoshida, the game will feature “High octane battles featuring our protagonist Clive Rosenfield wielding a full arsenal of attacks unique to the game’s many Elkon (summons)”. Final Fantasy is one of the longest-running Japanese role-playing games and first appeared on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is one of the most beloved franchises in gaming and the new entry is highly anticipated. Summer 2023 PS5
STREET FIGHTER 6 revealed the first cinematics and gameplay and it seemed to have a lot in common with the classic SF4. SF6 will be powered by Capcom’s proprietary RE engine, used for games like Resident Evil 8. It will feature 3 distinct game modes, Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub. TUNIC, the Hit PC and once Xbox exclusive game that is a mix of classic Zelda and souls games, is coming to PS4 & PS5 on September 27, 2022
Resident Evil 4 remake, featuring completely redone graphics and gameplay, similar to the recent RE2 & RE3 remakes. An award-winning classic game that has been remastered numerous times, a full remake has fans extremely excited to revisit the creepy European village filled with a strange cult. Releasing on March 24, 2023, it will contain PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) content. Releasing on Ps4, Ps5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
Resident Evil Village (8), the complete RE8 game featuring werewolves and giant vampire crushes is coming to PSVR2. the award-winning game has an 84% on Metacritic and is widely loved. RE8 VR will utilize PSVR2’s 4KD HDR display, eye tracking, and 3D audio.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners 2 Chapter 2 Retribution, a sequel to the highly successful and well-reviewed VR zombie killing game released on PSVR2 in 2022. Explore a gripping and scary zombie-filled world with the next-level fear and physicality that only VR can provide.
No Man’s Sky, the hit open universe sandbox is getting VR support with PSVR2.
Horizon VR Call Of The Mountain: explore the world of Horizon in full VR
Stray, the long-awaited Cat game set in a robot-ruled world, finally gets a release date of July 19, 2022, on PS4 & PS5.
The Callisto Protocol is a new game from Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield, that seems very similar to the Dead Space series of space survival horror, releasing December 2, 2022, on PS4 & PS5.
Rollerdrome is a unique combination of roller skates, ramps, wall riding, mechs, and guns. This 3rd person shooter looks to be one of the most unique games this year. Releasing August 16 on PS4 &PS5.
Eternights, Is a 3rd person action beat ‘em up game with dating sim aspects and a cool anime style, releasing early 2023 on PS4 & PS5.
Season: A Letter To The Future– A unique exploration game featuring cycling, photography, and an emotional story. Releasing autumn 2022.
Guerrilla Games announced that Horizon Forbidden West is getting a big update today, including a new game +. All in all, it was a very solid short show, the Spider-Man announcement for PC was a huge surprise. For some that may not be enough content to fill out the year, but it’s a good start and we’ll likely have another State of Play announcing more titles later on, and those announcements will likely include God Of War Ragnarok. There is still no PSVR2 release date, but with the new Walking Dead game expected in fall 2022, it’s possible that it will have the same release date as the PS5 VR headset.
