We are breaking down how to put together a Nanami cosplay. Nanami is a supporting character in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime and manga. This look is specifically based on his look from the anime.
Jujutsu Kaisen, both a manga and anime, was created by Gege Akutami. Jujutsu Kaisen follows the story of a group of people who are part of a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers. These sorcerers fight and exorcise curses that cause problems throughout Japan. The anime has one season and is available to watch on Crunchyroll. Nanami Kento is an adult sorcerer who supports the main characters and is popular among the fanbase.
Nanami Kento
Nanami Kento graduated from Jujutsu High in Tokyo as a strong sorcerer. However, he eventually chose to work in an office instead of remaining a sorcerer. Once in the regular work force, Nanami decided he also did not enjoy that life. This brought him back to sorcery.
Nanami’s outfit remains the same throughout the series. He has short, blonde hair, but any length of blonde will work for this character. Cosplayers have a lot of options as far as wigs are concerned. Short wigs are great, and they would just need some styling. As a Nanami cosplayer myself, I chose to use a more feminine, medium-length wig. Wigs that vary in lengths and shades of blonde will work just fine.
Nanami cosplay options
Nanami wears the same outfit throughout the entirety of season one. He wears a business suit, brown shoes, and a pair of goggles. Glasses? Either way, he has eyewear. Also, he carries a weapon, known as a cursed tool, to do his job exorcising curses. Because this is an anime character, try not to stress out about being screen accurate. Have fun with the character and add your own flair.
The suit consists of beige pants with a matching jacket, a royal blue button-up shirt, and a patterned tie. A lot of cosplayers choose to use a leopard-print tie for this character. Nanami wears a brown belt as well. Once in a while, his suspenders are visible depending on the scene and angle. Nanami cosplay pieces are regular clothing items which makes them a bit easier to find.
His goggles/glasses are grey with green lenses. However, they do not have the hooks to go over his ears. Again, this is where cosplayers can use their creativity and decide what sort of eye coverings work best for them.
There are also pre-made cosplays and costumes that work just as well. Cosplay websites such as Cossky and EZCosplay have options. Just be mindful of size charts and delivery times.
Creating Nanami’s cursed tool
Nanami’s cursed tool is a dull blade wrapped in cloth. The handle is black, and the wrappings are white with a black spotted-pattern. There are a few different ways to create this tool.
In the photo above, the handle is made out of PVC pipe then covered with a foam piece and wrapped in black electrical tape. The blade itself is made of cardboard. The wrappings are white cotton fabric, hot glued to the cardboard, then spotted with black acrylic paint.
YouTube is a wonderful place for cosplay prop tutorials. Sasa Time offers a beginner-friendly tutorial using items that are inexpensive and most people may already have, including cardboard and newspaper.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 1 is available to stream on Crunchyroll, and the manga is still being published.
