It’s Official, Disney now owns 21st Century Fox

The Walt Disney Company took control of 21st Century Fox on Wednesday after paying the sum of $71.4 billion dollars. The deal, which has been over a year in the making, gives Disney new properties to add to their already impressive line-up. The best part of this deal is that the X-men and Fantastic Four franchises are coming home to Marvel.

This acquisition also gives Disney control over franchises like Aliens, Planet of the Apes, and Avatar. On the TV side of the house, Disney gains the NBC megahit THIS IS US, as well as the Simpsons and Family Guy. Disney will also gain full distribution rights to the original 1977 Star Wars film. Does that mean we will see an un-altered version of the original Star Wars trilogy? PLEASE GOD!!!

Disney’s control over FOX does not come without its casualties. It is being reported that anywhere between 4,000 to 10,000 people may lose their jobs because of this merger. One promise that Disney made to its investors was a savings of 2 billion from the merging of the companies. In order to obtain these savings, more them 4,000 employees will be laid off, but analysts are predicting a lot more.

What will Disney do with all these newly acquired properties you ask? Why have them on their new Disney+ streaming service. Owning Fox means that Disney will now have content that will be available on the Disney+ service. Want to watch Titanic or old M.A.S.H episodes, you will be possibly seeing them exclusively on Disney+ later this year.

If you head to thewaltdisneycompany.com right now, you will see a new banner that includes properties acquired from the FOX deal. I mean, Deadpool is on a flipping Disney website. What is happening here?
