Iyanu: The Age of Wonders Movie to Premiere August 30

Cartoon Network and HBO Max announced “Iyanu: The Age of Wonders Movie” during San Diego Comic-Con. The film will premiere on August 30 at 9:30 a.m. ET/PT. This is the first movie in a pair of animated feature films.

To celebrate the release, fans got a sneak peek at “Iyanu: The Age of Wonders Movie.” Check out the teaser here:

The film’s synopsis is as follows:

Set 500 years before the rise of Iyanu, The Age of Wonders transports viewers to Yorubaland at the height of its magical civilization. When Meje — the embodiment of the seven deadly sins — emerges, young warriors Dara and Ishe must stop the coming Age of Darkness. Their only hope lies with the Divine Ones, legendary beings who once walked the earth and upheld the balance between light and shadow.

With the film’s announcement, Iyanu season two will premiere in 2026 and explores Iyanu facing a new enemy threatening Yorubaland.

Iyanu follows the titular character Iyanu, as she discovers her powers and saves her homeland from evil.

Iyanu first premiered in April 2025 and ran for 10 episodes. Adapted from “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” a graphic novel series by Nigerian creator/producer Roye Okupe, Iyanu features an all-Nigerian cast.

Iyanu is set in Yorubaland, a world inspired by the Yoruba people in Nigeria, Africa. The series follows an orphan girl named Iyanu who has no memory of her past. One day, she discovers she has the abilities that rival “the Divine Ones.” With her friends Biyi and Toye, the trio embarks on a journey to discover the truth about her homeland. As evil makes itself known, she must unlock her memories and hone her powers to save Yorubaland.
