Temporary cover for Jenny-The Doctor's Daughter: Still Running

Jenny is “Still Running” at Big Finish for Series 2

After quietly adding it to their website two weeks ago (and a sneaky studio picture on Instagram), Big Finish has now officially announced Jenny series 2! As previously discussed, Georgia Tennant and Sean Biggerstaff will return to the roles of Jenny and Noah in Jenny- The Doctor’s Daughter: Still Running.

Still Running will release in November 2021, and while no specifics have been announced yet, Big Finish is promising the return of a few “familiar faces” from elsewhere in the Whoniverse. It will certainly be interesting to hear how some characters react to the Doctor having a daughter! Especially the one character who is teased in the title of one of the four episodes that will make up this box set.

This second series of adventures will start with “Inside the Maldovarium” by Adrian Poynton. While casting has not been confirmed yet, it seems as if Jenny will be meeting Dorium Maldovar! He is, of course, most recognizable to Doctor Who fans for his appearances in “The Pandorica Opens,” “A Good Man Goes to War,” and “The Wedding of River Song.” Big Finish has worked with Simon Fisher-Becker before, and he did return to the role of Dorium in 2018’s The Doctor Chronicles: The Eleventh Doctor Volume 1, “The Light Keepers.”

As for the other three episodes, those titles do not give much away. “Altered Status” by Christian Brassington & Matt Fitton, “Calamity Jenny” by John Dorney, and “Her Own Worst Enemy” by Lisa McMullin will round out the second series of Jenny. I can’t wait to learn more about the stories for these episodes! While it was nice to give Jenny a universe of her own to explore in her first series, there’s certainly lots to be explored as she (hopefully!) gets closer to finding her Dad.

Georgia Tennant had this to say about returning to the role of Jenny for another audio series:

“When we did the first series of Jenny, I wanted it to be something that was cross-generational, that everyone could listen to together – something that was funny and accessible because of its humour. I wanted it to feel like even if you weren’t entirely sure of the timey-wimey stuff, you would get the humour, because that’s something that’s universal. Everyone was so lovely about the first series, and I hope that the listeners enjoy this second one – for they are the reason we are doing it!”

Emma Haigh, the producer for this series, did have a few more hints for what listeners can expect from these stories.

“I’m so excited Jenny is back! She and Noah are heading on four terrific adventures and getting into many more scrapes. As well as heading to the Wild West and some new utopias, we meet some familiar Doctor Who characters, and they learn more about an old enemy. Buckle up as this promises to be a bumpy and thrilling ride!”

Certainly it sounds as if there’s a lot more for Jenny and Noah to explore in this Jenny series 2! While there are still only a few details known at this point, stay tuned here for more news. Personally, I’m very interested to know who else will show up in this series- especially who, or what, the “old enemy” may be. Perhaps COLT-5000 from the first series isn’t as lost as was thought…? We’ll have to wait and see!

You can pre-order Jenny- The Doctor’s Daughter: Still Running from Big Finish’s website now as a digital download for £19.99 or a collector’s edition box set for £24.99. Listeners can also save by ordering a bundle of both series as a download for £40 or the CDs for £48.
