Jenny, the Doctor’s Daughter, Returns To Big Finish

Update (6/29/21)! Big Finish has now officially confirmed Jenny’s return and shared episode titles and writers!

Jenny, the Doctor’s Daughter, returns to Big Finish once again! Though not quite officially announced yet, volume 2 of Jenny’s adventures is up for pre-order on Big Finish’s website. Plus, we already know at least one returning cast member aside from Georgia Tennant’s Jenny.

Due for release in November 2021, there’s not much more known about this release. However, it does seem to be a follow up to Jenny’s first set of stories from Big Finish, which was released in June 2018. On Instagram, Georgia Tennant posted a picture of herself and actor Sean Biggerstaff recording the new series. 

In volume one of Jenny: The Doctor’s Daughter, Sean Biggerstaff played a character named Noah. Jenny and Noah first met when Jenny was trying to steal a ship. Unbeknownst to her, the ship’s original pilot had been left in long-term stasis and was awoken when she asked the ship for help escaping. Though Noah (nicknamed as such by Jenny) is an unknown humanoid species, the first set of stories hinted at a connection between him and the Sanakuma. The Sanakuma were first introduced in volume one of The Diary of River Song as a caste of an ancient species called the Kamishi. It will be interesting to see how this all ties into Noah’s character!

No further details are available on Big Finish’s website under the “about” section outside of a sentence re-used from volume one’s synopsis.

“She’s ready to save planets, fight monsters, and save the day, using nothing but her bravery, wit and instinct – and an awful lot of running.”

However, it does appear that Georgia Tennant will once again take a producer role as she did for volume one. Additionally, the product format is listed as a 4-disc CD release (for those purchasing physical copies, anyway). Volume 1 had 5 CDs, so this may indicate either a reduction to three stories rather than four or that each story will have its own behind-the-scenes section rather than one long, separate section at the end of the release. Both are changes that Big Finish has made recently.

I really enjoyed volume one of Jenny’s stories with Big Finish. And her episode in their special anniversary release in 2019 was a lot of fun! I’m looking forward to hearing what adventures she goes on next. Stay tuned here for more details as we hear them.
