Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon Coming to Theaters April 2025

A monster-sized screen for a monster-sized anime: “Kaiju No. 8” is heading to theaters next month!

“Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon” will stomp into American and Canadian theaters for a three-day showing. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will bring the film to theaters April 13, 14, and 16 for an event-style release.

The omnibus film will be released in English and Japanese with English subtitles. “Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon” will recap season one and premiere an exclusive never-before-seen episode titled “Hoshino’s Day Off.”

Crunchyroll describes Hoshino’s Day Off as the following:

“A day off… a rare day of peace for the Defense Force. After spending so long training, Reno has forgotten what he’s supposed to do with free time. He sees that Hoshina is up to something with his own day off, and decides to go on a mission to tail him with Iharu! But then things go in an unexpected direction…”

Pop band OneRepublic will perform the ending theme song “Invincible.” They previously performed Kaiju No. 8’s season one ending theme song “Nobody.”

About Kaiju No. 8

Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old on the Kaiju cleanup crew who dreams of joining the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force (“The Defense Force”). His childhood friend Mina Ashiro is the Third Division Captain, who he once promised to make The Defense Force team and protect Japan.

One day, a small Kaiju enters Hibino’s body, granting him incredible strength. With help from friend Reno Ichikawa, Hibino hides his Kaiju powers from others on The Defense Force. How will Hibino navigate being half-Kaiju, half-human, while striving to protect Japan from the very thing he has become?
