Kyle Hebert Interview | WonderCon 2023

WonderCon took place at the Anaheim Convention Center over the weekend of March 24-26th. This year, 7 Bucks a Pop had a booth where they invited voice actors as special guests to participate in signings. Among those who signed Pops and prints was voice actor Kyle Hebert. During our Kyle Hebert interview, we talked about his WonderCon experience, his dream of being a voice actor, and more.

Kyle Hebert Interview

Kyle Hebert is known for voicing characters such as adult Gohan (Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super), Fatgum (My Hero Academia), Ryu (Street Fighter video game series), Kiba Inuzuka (Naruto), and many more.

We asked Kyle about how he felt knowing that anime has become more mainstream in the last few years. He said:

“It’s one of those pivotal genres that helped turn being a nerd into a cool thing. You know? There’s still bullying going on, but I think a lot more people that were maybe closeted anime fans are now understanding and accepting. Especially when you come to a comic con; anime fans don’t just go to anime cons anymore. Comic con people don’t just go to comic cons anymore…It’s appealing to a very, very wide array of things because fans aren’t just fans of one particular thing, they can be fans of a lot. You know, there’s Marvel and DC fans that totally love Dragon Ball Z.”

Gohan in DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO

Kyle Hebert has always wanted to be a voice actor. He talked about how doing voice over and being a DJ on the radio allowed him to overcome some of his shyness.

“I liked the idea that people could hear my voice and I could entertain them, but they didn’t look at me because I was shy and introverted. Just like voice acting, they don’t see you, it doesn’t matter what you look like, you’re behind a microphone, and you entertain people. Whether it’s, you know, in person, at a con, or what not. And I have been able to overcome a lot of shyness through voice over and through radio, that I feel a lot more confident to address people at a panel, to do interviews, to do anything, talk to the fans, and just be grateful to the universe.”
