Twitter can be a magical place at times. One of those times on Wednesday when Gary Whitta dropped what can only be considered a bombshell. He tweeted out concept art from an untitled Last Starfighter project.
Who is Gary Whitta exactly? He may be best known as they writer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He is actually deeply involved with the Star Wars Universe with comics and four episodes of Star Wars Rebels being written by him.
Now what does all this have to do with The Last Starfighter? A writer teasing what is clearly concept art of The Last Starfighter has to mean something is in the early stages of production. Take a look at the tweets and decide for yourself.
Okay, probably shouldn’t show you this so early but here’s a little something I’ve been tinkering on with my co-writer Jonathan Betuel. You might recognize the ships. Thanks to the amazing Matt Allsopp (lead concept artist on ROGUE ONE) for creating these images for us. pic.twitter.com/CIobLYYRHk

People seemed excited by the first tweet so here’s a tiny bit more of Matt’s concept art. Can’t show anything more after this, it’s all too spoilery 🙂 #GreetingsStarfighter pic.twitter.com/FydxLwEfrt

Well, what do you think? Is there a new Last Starfighter on the horizon? Will we be heading back to defend against the Kodan Armada? Only time will tell.
