When fierce bounty hunter Reginald Jones (Peter Dinklage) is recruited by a desperate man, he immediately assembles a band of unlikely heroes to track down the ruthless killer known only as Cutthroat Bill (Juliette Lewis). A grave-digging ex-slave and a street-smart woman-for-hire readily join his cause. Together, they embark on a perilous quest to hunt Cutthroat Bill, a journey that ultimately leads them into the deadly “no-man’s-land” known as…The Thicket.

In essence, THE THICKET is a film about vengeance, justice, and unlikely companionship. The film also stars Esmé Creed-Miles, Levon Hawke, Macon Blair, Andrew Schulz, James Hetfield, and David Midthunder, with Arliss Howard, Leslie Grace, and Gbenga Akinnagbe.

A story with Family at the heart of it

Hawke began by expressing the honor of working with such talented actors, while also highlighting the unique dynamic of his character, Jack. “He’s the protagonist, but he’s kind of not really enough of a badass to actually lead a Western,” Hawke quipped. He further described the humorous challenge of constantly relying on other characters for help, making for a fun and engaging performance.

When asked about the heart of the movie, Hawke didn’t hesitate: “To me, it really is family.” He connected deeply to his character’s quest to rescue his sister, drawing inspiration from his own four sisters. Additionally, the theme of family extends further, as both Jack and Peter Dinklage’s character are orphans, finding common ground in their shared loneliness.

Meditation on loneliness and the need for companionship

Hawke hopes the audience will have fun watching the film, but also recognizes its deeper themes. “I really feel like this movie is a meditation on loneliness,” he explained, emphasizing the isolation of many characters. Ultimately, he desires that the film might spark conversations and connections among viewers, reminding us of the value of companionship in a lonely world.

With its exploration of family, loneliness, and the importance of human connection, “The Thicket” promises to be a thought-provoking and entertaining Western adventure. Led by Levon Hawke’s compelling performance, the film is sure to resonate with audiences and leave them reflecting on the power of companionship.
