The highly anticipated upcoming anime Marriagetoxin took over the main stage at Jump Festa in Tokyo, Japan this past December. Voice actors Haruki Ishiya (Hikaru Gero) and Shion Wakayama (Mei Kinosaki) joined the stage, along with director Motonobu Hori, Marriagetoxin creator Joumyaku, and staff.
In the spirit of Marriagetoxin, Joumyaku dressed up as Bug-User Toshiki Hanamaki, with a handmade tarantula prop by Isamu Yusen, Hanamaki’s voice actor. The cast and crew talked about their favorite characters. Hori said, “[t]here’s so many great characters, so it’s hard for me to choose just one, but I would have to choose Gero.” Hori also revealed some behind-the-scenes storyboard art, showcasing main character Hikaru Gero wearing a gas mask.

Joumyaku, Ishiya, and Wakayama expressed their excitement for the series becoming an anime:
“I couldn’t believe it. Even when I was at the voice recording sessions, I was still in disbelief,” Joumyaku said.
“I’ve been reading the manga from volume 1, so when I found out I passed the audition, I was in disbelief, just like Joumyaku-Sensei said! I was so happy!” Ishiya exclaimed.
“My love for the title grew so much between the audition and when I got the call – so much so that I was leaping for joy! I’m so glad I went to the audition!” Wakayama said, echoing her costar’s excitement.
Ishiya receive a sacred object passed around the Marriagetoxin team: Gero’s gas mask! Ishiya expressed his gratitude:
“I am so honored to receive this item that has been passed on for generations. I will do my best!”
Marriagetoxin Synopsis
For centuries, “Masters” have perfected the deadly arts. Marriagetoxin follows Hikaru Gero who comes from a family of Poison Masters, the most fearsome and powerful of the Five Great Families. Since he has lived his whole life in the underworld, he has no experience with love.
One day, the Geto head announces that Hikaru’s sister must bear an heir to continue the Geto bloodline, even if she doesn’t want to. In order to protect his sister, Hikaru decides that he will get married to continue the bloodline.
With help from marriage swindler Mei Kinosaki, Hikaru sets out for his toughest mission yet: Finding a bride!
